Brief Profile:
I came at medicine from a little different background. I earned an undergrad in CompE from Vandy and thought I would stick with academia. I pursued this dream and obtained a MS in EE, but somewhere along the way decided that medicine was my ideal career. I quit my research job, entered a postbac (21 hours x 2 semesters), and applied to med school.
Here's a quick rundown of my activities in college and postbac:
Resident advisor in undergrad, laboratory manager/webmaster in graduate school, several conference publications, editor of Vandy's engineering newspaper, shadowed at emergency room, shadowed in various clinics at pre-med summer program.

Summary of Application Experience
I applied via AMCAS to about 15 schools, but figured out I didn't really want to go to several of them. I received secondaries from all except Wake Forest. I ended up submitting secondaries to the TN schools (including Vandy), VCU, Alabama, and Baylor. I was hoping to attend a Tennessee school like Quillen or UT and was accepted to both!
I decided to attend Quillen because of: * small class size * proximity to family * strength in pc / rural medicine education * general positive atmosphere, friends attending * close to mountains * allow coffee in their lecture rooms
Best of luck to all you nontrads out there, it can be done!
