Brief Profile:
Screwed around as an undergrad and as a result got a Masters of Public Administration specializing in Health Services Administration to try to enhance my appeal to ADCOMS. Also have my NREMT-P license, although I have not practiced in several years due to school and also the rural area I live in operates on a 'volunteer only' basis AND is only BLS certified (READ: Even though I am a licensed NREMT-P the medical officer would only let me operate as an NREMT-B (big difference in skill level) AND I did not get paid, and had to maintain so many 'on call' hours per week in order to remain a 'volunteer'). Long stroy short, I couldn't afford to devote the required amount of time to remain a 'volunteer' and pay my rent. However, I have well over 500 patient contact hours and completed a full internship with MAST in KC (What a blast!). In grad school I have achieved a perfect 4.0 thus far (three semesters down, one to go). I have earned a paid G.A. position, gotten several contracts for research work with the USD Med School and the Government Research Bureau at USD. Selected as student representative on a faculty search committee in the MPA program, several other small awards and distinctions. Undergrad I screwed around too much, never went to class, didn't even buy books for many classes and used the money to party, blah blah blah. That said, I still managed to pull a 3.02 overall undergrad GPA (3.07 BCPM) (looking back I am amazed I did that well). The last year of my undergrad I turned things around a bit and worked in both a molecular bio research lab and organic chem research lab. Earned 'Excellence in Undergraduate Research' awards and did some presentations related to the research. Like I said, I screwed around too much when I was younger and as a result have had to take 'the long road' to med school.
