Summary of Application Experience
My pre-med committee letter wasn't completed until way later than I had expected, which meant that I wasn't complete at a lot of schools until relatively late. I know my GPA wasn't very impressive, but I think that I might have had a slightly better shot at a couple schools if my application file had been complete a month earlier. I would strongly recommend that everyone try to get their applications in as early as possible.
Between October and February, several months passed where I didn't hear a word from any medical school (except for my acceptance.) Apparently I was on hold at about ten or so schools for many months, but they never told me. If you don't hear from a school within a few weeks of being complete, in my experience, that's a bad thing--you can likely expect a rejection.
In the end, I applied to a bunch of schools, spent a lot of money, and wound up getting one interview--at my state institution. Fortunately, I was accepted. Otherwise, I would be extremely bitter and upset with myself for having shelled out SO much money just for the opportunity to be rejected by a bunch of places. As it stands now, however, I'm just glad the whole experience is over, and that I don't have to do it again! I'm looking forward to starting med school in the fall at a school I am excited to have the opportunity to attend!
