? I should be complete at all schools except University of Wisconsin (waiting on 1 LOR for them). I will update here as schools confirm that my application is complete.

    10/26/2007
? Last optional LOR reached Interfolio today. Sent out optional LORs to schools who take them.

    10/30/2007
? Interviewed (regional), Loma Linda University. I was actually more impressed than I thought I would be, LLU has many opportunities other places do not. I need to visit the campus at some point. Dr. Nyirady did a great job of selling the school to me; hopefully that means I'll get in!

    11/02/2007
? Interviewed, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Incredible facilities! Many opportunities for research and service involvement, students were very enthusiastic, faculty I met were really down to earth and friendly.

    11/09/2007
? Interviewed, University of Nebraska Medical Center. Seems like a great place with nice people. Dr. Hill really emphasized their commitment to training doctors who give the very best in patient care. I really enjoyed the day, and I would love to see the facilities once the new Sorrell Center opens before next Fall. Many rural/global opportunities are very attractive to me. I think I fit in with this school's focus.

? No more interview invites yet--seems like the whole process has slowed down considerably. I don't expect to hear decisions from schools I've interviewed at until January.

    11/13/2007
? Rejected, University of Wisconsin. Maybe because I'm OOS? Too bad, was pretty interested in this school.

    11/16/2007
? Invited for interview, Ohio State University [01/07/08].

    11/19/2007
? Invited for interview, Saint Louis University [12/18].

    11/26/2007
? Invited for interview, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities [12/07].

    12/03/2007
? Moved to smaller pool for potential interview (i.e. pre-interview hold), Medical College of Wisconsin.

    12/07/2007
? Interviewed, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Would LOVE to be accepted here! Every student I have talked to has positive things to say about the school. Their flexible M.D. program allows you to tailor your education experience to suit yourself. I think the school is headed in a very positive direction. Hoping to hear back later this month...

    12/18/2007
? Interviewed, Saint Louis University. Really enjoyed talking with my interviewer; we seemed to agree on a variety of different subjects. SLU prepares its students very well for Step I/II, and I really like their clinical emphasis rather than research. Overall, I liked it a lot more than I expected and I rank it up there with Minnesota.

    12/19/2007
? Accepted, Loma Linda University. I'm going to medical school! Received phone call from Dr. Nyirady today; such a relief, words can not describe...

    12/24/2007
? Accepted, University of Nebraska. Received acceptance letter in the mail today. Wow, I have options now! Pretty exciting, but the OOS tuition is ridiculous.

    01/07/2008
? Interviewed, Ohio State University College of Medicine. Excellent facilities, students were nice, and faculty sound helpful. I really liked it there, plus it is easy to claim residency in Ohio for in-state tuition. Got stuck another night in Columbus because of bad weather in Chicago.

? I am finished with interviews and will withdraw my remaining post-secondary applications. Right now my top three choices (in no particular order) are Loma Linda, OSU, and U of MN-TC. Hopefully I will hear back quickly so I can make a decision.

    01/10/2008
? Withdrew, Creighton University, Dartmouth Medical School, Medical College of Wisconsin, Washington University in St. Louis, and Wright State University.

    01/24/2008
? Today I was informed that my application was deferred (not accepted or rejected) at Ohio State and placed in the final pool at University of Iowa. I am bummed about the deferral from Ohio; seems like an excellent place. Maybe they will decide to let me in eventually... As for Iowa, I don't really care at this point. After seeing other schools during interviews, I would not be heartbroken if I didn't get in there.

    01/25/2008
? Waitlisted, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. No love from my state school even, what is going on?

? Waitlisted, Saint Louis University. Man, it has been a rough two days...

    02/07/2008
? Dr. Nyirady called to tell me I have received a $10K Merit Scholarship from LLU. Oh so tempting...

    02/17/2008
? Visited LLU over the weekend. Enjoyed it out in California, the weather is amazing. I wish the new Centennial Complex was opening this fall; some of the facilities are ancient. I will probably end up here...

    03/14/2008
? Waitlisted, University of Iowa. On the OOS list, #71. Pretty far down there, but I guess it moves quite a bit. Don't really want to live in Iowa City the next 4 years anyway.

    03/26/2008
? Decided to attend LLU next year. Loma Linda has a lot to offer myself and my fiancee. I'm excited about having made a decision and can't wait to get started! I will remain on waitlists at other places just because I'm curious to see how it turns out.

    05/22/2008
? Accepted, Ohio State University. I wish they would have accepted me sooner! Have to make a decision real quick...

? Withdrew, University of Iowa. Realistically, I was not going to attend here anyway, so I got my name off the alternate list. I think I was high enough on the list to eventually make it in though (according to numbers since 2003).

    05/23/2008
? Withdrew, Ohio State University. If they had accepted me earlier, I might be headed to Ohio instead of California. At this point, I've made too many plans for California to walk away now. Anyway, I'm excited that this process is finally over. I'm very satisfied with this cycle: 6 interviews, 3 acceptances, and probably would have had another from Iowa if I stayed on the waiting list.

? ADVICE FOR FUTURE APPLICANTS ?
    1. Apply early. Submit your AMCAS in June.
    2. Get your LORs ASAP, Interfolio service was great for me.
    3. Have fun on interview days! Relax, enjoy it, be yourself, be real.
    4. If your interviewer gives you a card, or if information is provided, send a quick thank you note to them. Also, be friendly to EVERYONE you meet, admissions office, students, etc.
