Summary of Application Experience
3/21: Finally got around to requesting LORs. 5/18: All transcripts received by AMCAS. 5/21: Personal statement entered! There may be some more slight changes, but essentially done. 6/14: MCAT scores in! Very excited, but still need to finish MD/PhD essays so I can send in my app... 7/07: Submitted AMCAS to 5 schools; Ready for review; trying to settle on a list of 10-15 others schools by the time I get verified. 7/12: Submitted AMCAS to another 17 schools; still waiting for review; started online secondaries for JHU and Yale 7/18: submitted JHU secondary ($75) 7/19: AMCAS verified. Secondaries coming in! 8/17: Letters up on Virtual Evals! At last!!! 8/20: Starting to be complete. The waiting game begins... 8/20: Added 2 schools to my AMCAS 8/24: First interview invite!!! 9/13: First MSTP invite! 10/10: Lots of invites! No longer paralyzed by fear that I'm going to completely fail at this process. Declined WUSTL interview b/c I already have a few MSTP invites, and can't take too many days off from work. 10/15: Woohoo, 1st acceptance! 10/18: LOVED Brown! Too bad they don't have an MSTP...I'm enjoying the interview process thus far, even though it's logistically and physically taxing. Great to talk to other applicants and practicing physicians about their thoughts on medicine and life. 12/5: Hell of a week! first MSTP acceptance (VERY excited!) and more invites. This is going incredibly better than I had expected, even though the interview trail is quite draining... 1/18: DONE with interviews!!! Now I sit pretty and wait... Had considered withdrawing from UNC and UW pre-interview, but very glad I didn't, their ID epi programs are amazing! It's hard to tell which place I like best, since they all have their pros and cons. I will say though, that I was blown away by Penn altogether, except that their ID epi does not begin to compare with the UNC/UW/Hopkins triumvirate. 3/21: Withdrawing from several schools...It's hard, I really liked a lot of the schools I interviewed at, but at this point it's really down to UNC, UW, JHU, and Penn. 3/27: Last decision is in! It's been a loooong road...Withdrawn from all schools but UNC, UW, JHU, and Penn. Going to revisits so I can narrow down and have a final decision by mid/late April. 5/1: Off to JHU for me! Can't believe how long (& expensive) this process has been. It's nice to have the monkey off my back...
