Summary of Application Experience
10/11: Got placed on hold at Mayo Minnesota. Thinking about sending a letter of interest in the following weeks.
10/20: Added 3 MSTP schools to my list as back up. I am research heavy and I think I will appeal to MSTP programs.
10/21: Got my first II to California University of Science and Medicine. Somewhat relieved but Im not so sure about attending a new/unranked MD school.
10/28: First R. Just got rejected from Mayo Arizona. Going to send Mayo Minnesota a letter of interest in the following days.
10/30: Second R to UPitt. Kind of pissed but it seems like the ball is rolling with my apps. Hopefully November is better as I heard that most Labor Day apps will be reviewed then.
11/3: Rejected from UCLA. Really pissed about this one. Submitting in early September, probably screwed me over for UCLA as the bulk of IIs already went out by then. Also sent a Mayo letter of interest recently to potentially get off hold. Added some lower ranking schools today (Creighton and USF) even thought its a bit late in the game.
11/5: Holy shit! I got an interview invite to UCSF. I just woke up, randomly checked my spam inbox, and there it was. Man, Im so excited. Its funny how I got an II to a top 5 school while mid tiers are ghosting me. Although, Im hopeful that Ill be getting more IIs in the next few weeks.
11/11: Rejected to BU.
11/18: Just got an interview invite for UC Davis. Im getting a lot of California love. Also, the first mid tier interview of the cycle.
12/4: Interview invite to Hofstra. Time to send out a bunch of ITA to New York/ New England schools
12/15: Hold for Drexel and R for Hopkins and UAB MSTP recently. Transferred my app to regular MD for UAB
12/16: II to Western Michigan. I thought I completely tanked my phone interview back in September, but this is a great boost in confidence. To anyone reading this, its not what you say, its how you say it. You can say the most idiotic stuff, but if you say it eloquently, enthusiastically, and sound friendly, then that is a large bulk of what matters. For an in person interview, 80 percent of what matters is body language while the rest is content. Most people just prep for the content but fail to work on remembering to do the important non-verbal stuff in an interview like smiling, making eye contact, and speaking with confidence and charisma.
12/18: II to UCSD. So much for it being late in the cycle. Great day so far!
12/19: II to the University of Colorado! 3 IIs in 2 days. Triple double baby!
