Summary of Application Experience
Everything I need to know I learned in Hell (aka this application process) LOR version: DON'T BE SHY. I called and emailed a handful, made no progress, and almost gave up on applying to schools that require a DO letter, which would have sucked because I love DO. What I found: Let EVERYONE you know know that you are applying and trying to find a physician to shadow/talk to--ultimately with the need of a letter. Turns out a woman in my mother's mah jong class at the senior center is a retired drug rep with connections. AND my aunt set me up with a Mayo Clinic anesthesiologist. AND my aunt's friend is working on setting me up with a third. Awesome. :)
--somewhat sporadic and in no way accurate time-line-- sometime in september : just said 'no' to gw. the number of pre-interview holds is a major turn-off.
10.1 : aacomas mailed. gpa calculated 2 days ago. good turn around :)
10.4 : ccom secondary received
10.5 : aamc calculated. aacom was calculated/mailed a few days back. not bad for crunch time :)
10.5 : vcom secondary received and completed
10.6 :vcu waiting for mcat
10.8 : azcom secondary received. started cv
10.10 : une email -- waiting for mcat score, kcumb secondary received, dmu secondary received
10.23 : should have updated sooner... mcat scores are more-or-less where i thought they'd be. i'd like to thank the curve for making that PS 8 possible--my practice tests were higher (aren't they always?!) but i really thought i bombed it on the real thing...
a western interview invite pre-secondary (get to use my suit at least once this season!) is helping me get through this pile of secondaries :) one of the mayo anesthesiologists i've met with is an alum from comp so that's awesome
tucom-nv invite :) friend is a third year and loves it. vegas is close to 'home.' definite potential
11.1 : happy november :) dcu called today to schedule an interview. i'm excited to see tennessee! sounds like they're preparing to run a class-act out there.
kcumb interview invite pre-secondary :) my boyfriend is pro-kansas city
11.11 : mwu:azcom interview invite :) first available interview is in february--yikes! they're a top choice, though, so i'm thrilled despite the wait
i'm unofficially 'dropping' a lot of my applications. i like what i've seen and heard from my osteo schools. i think we 'fit' each other better and i honestly don't have the money or the energy to apply to the overly-applied or 'not as convenient.' why waste the schools' and my own money, time, and energy?
