Summary of Application Experience
6/27- Submitted AMCAS. Verification will take forever... 7/6- Sent out GW secondary. Au revoir $105. 7/14- Primary verified! The funs begins! 7/16- Added Ros Frank. A nice school in Chicago, why not? 7/17- Submitted Case secondary. Now if I could only get my LORs in on time... 7/18- Submitted SLU and Jeff secondaries. Trying really hard to not think about how much money I'm spending. 7/19- Submitted Pitt secondary. 7/20- Submitted NYMC secondary. 7/23- Submitted Temple secondary. 7/27- Submitted HMS secondary. 7/31- Yawn. Is this the calm before the storm, or will be storm never get here? 8/2- Mailed BU secondary. Submitted UVM secondary. 8/4- Wake Forest rejection. So much for Southern Hospitality. 8/8- Committee Letter mailed. Soon to be complete. Eeeesh better hurry up with the remaining secondaries! 8/10- Mailed Ros Frank secondary. 8/11- Submitted Tufts secondary. 8/16- Submitted Drexel secondary. 8/20- Submitted Keck secondary. 8/27- Submitted Albany secondary. 9/1- First interview invite from Tufts!! Somewhat surprising and very exciting to have an interview offer so early in the season. Also received a pre-interview hold from GW... not sure if this is a rejection. 9/7- REJECTED by BU. :( 9/20- UCSF rejection. Not surprised, of course. Very nice and warm letter- class act over there. 10/3- Got Case Western interview invite!! I was really expecting a rejection based on the ominous 'status update' e-mail. It's official: Cleveland Rocks! 10/12- Interviewed at Tufts. Very impressed by the school and by the friendliness of the students and faculty. Would go here in a heartbeat! 10/14- Received UPitt rejection. Woe me! What will I ever do now that I can't attend such an amazingly unbelievable unique special school!? I was sooo looking forward to being in their viewbook, too! 10/21- Received rejection letter from GW. Somewhat disappointing, but I wasn't too crazy about the school anyway. 11/1- I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Tufts :) Thank you, Dr. O'Connor! 11/3- Pre-Interview Hold from AMC. This process is so weird- invites from Tufts and Case and a hold from Albany. Crazy... 11/14- .... of the Lambs... 11/15- Received official welcome to the TUSM Class of 2011. Withdrew from Albany, Ros Frank, and UVM. 11/20- My PI wrote HMS admissions to give my application a boost, only to be informed that I didn't make the cut. C'est la vie... 12/15- Interviewed at Case. Truly innovative curriculum, friendly students, and awe-inspiring medical campus manage to overcome the crappiness of Cleveland. My closed file student interview (~30 mins) and open file faculty interview (~90 mins) were both odd in the sense that no real questions were asked. Very hard to read; I have no idea how I did. Stay tuned folks... 12/20- I suppose if the best word you can use to describe your interviews at a school is 'odd', then you shouldn't be too surprised when you DON'T get accepted. Et tu, Case? 2/2- Sent letter of intent to Case. 3/10- Received HMS rejection letter. 3/16- Keck rejection. 3/23- SLUM rejection. Why did I apply there again? 4/3- Placed on the alternate list at Case. This is like a good book I can't put down! What *will* happen next? 4/11- Received Temple rejection. 5/24- Received Drexel rejection. No love from the Philly schools. 7/12- First day of classes at Case. I'm in Boston. I take it I won't be getting off the Alternate List. 7/17- Well, looks like there's not much more for me to do here. The season has come to an anticlimactic end. I am happy to have been accepted and will never have to go through this bullshit again- well not until residency application anyway. At last tally, Case has given me teh boot. Nevertheless, they're pretty classy at Case and I won't hold a grudge against them for inviting me to interview when my numbers didn't give me a chance and then sticking me with the worst interviewer ever (Dr. D---- D---, PhD, you suck). NYMC and Jefferson win the jackass award for not bothering to even formally reject me as of this writing.
Good luck to all future applicants!
