Summary of Application Experience
My GPA is a bit misleading, because my best work (which was also over half of my undergrad credits) was done at Evergreen, which was done by narrative evaluation. My post-grad GPA was a 3.71 and my post-bacc GPA was 3.49 (not great, but not too bad).
Used streaming lectures from UC-Berkeley and MIT to review the sciences (though I haven't taken the final semester of physics, chemistry, or biology), and MCAT Gold Standard, and I found the online AMCAS tests to be the best actual test prep. I took the August MCAT, and scored 32S.
I submitted my application at the end of August, and as of mid-October I'm still waiting for AMCAS to finish verifying it. In the meantime, I've begun the secondaries that I had access to.
I'm now receiving secondaries faster than I can complete and pay for them. It's early November, and my hopes run high...
It's now mid-December, completed most of the Secondaries and just waiting for news on interviews.
Now it's late January, and still waiting for an interview invite.
Late February update: rejections coming in, but I got an invite to interview at Jefferson, so renewed my hope. No longer resigned to waiting another year! Hoping for another interview invite soon, too.
Late March: getting very excited about JMC interview, looks like a great school. I still haven't heard from Mt Sinai and Tulane. All other schools have sent me rejections.
Early April: interviewed at Jefferson, and absolutely loved the school. Hoping I get in. Update: Received rejections from Tulane and Mt Sinai, so now it's Jeff or stay in the UK, and apply next year...
Late April: waiting on pins and needles to hear from Jefferson. Supposedly, the adcom is meeting tomorrow, so I'm hoping I get a phone call tomorrow or the next day. Update: I rang and was told I'd receive something in the mail, which could either be a rejection or a waitlist.
Mid-August: apparently, I was offered a place high on the waitlist, but never received the letter. So, I wasn't actually on the waitlist, because there was a bit you had to reply to. I'm preparing my applications for UK medical schools, and will hopefully have more luck here.
February '08: I have been accepted at Guy's, King's College, and St Thomas' Medical School, the University of London, to start this fall. Most excellent news. This totally rocks. King's is #24 on the World Rankings of universities, which is exciting. Maybe I'll come back to the US for residency, but maybe not...
