April 2006 MCAT: PS-10,VR-7,BS-10,N (27N) booo!
August 2006 MCAT: PS-14!,VR-9,BS-9,N (32N) better :)
10/25/06 AMCAS submitted and 15 schools designated - hopefully I'm not too late :)
11/29/06 AMCAS finally verified - BCMP may be slightly higher because I just finished a 3 cr. biochemistry class with an A
12/01/06 Missed three deadlines due to how long it took to verify my primary AMCAS. I gambled betting that I would at least have a few days to crank out those secondaries and lost... I'm really only depressed about missing the U of WI :(
12/11/06 All LORs received at U of MN's credential service and ready for disbursement
12/26/06 First rejection came from Mayo... I knew it was a long shot, especially since I don't have much research experience.
1/13/07 I have finally received a secondary from every school I applied to. Lets hope I get some love with the interview process.
1/17/07 Updates from schools with my completed application file:
SUNY @ Buffalo: New employee said he didn't know when my file would be reviewed, but that he would move it to the front of pile (I thought this was weird, but great at the same time)
UMD: File was reviewed and I didn't get an interview. According to someone in their office, my app did not show enough evidence of a desire to go into primary care medicine in rural MN... I thought I made a pretty good case, but I guess I was wrong. My stats are above their averages and I even had an alumni write a LOR for me.
Medical College of WI: File has not been reviewed yet. I should hear about an interview decision in 4-6 weeks.
UMiami: File began review on 1/16. It will be 'a couple weeks' until a decision is made.
Creighton: In the process of reviewing files completed after 11/1, so I will hear back in 'the next few weeks.'
1/25/07 Loyola update: Should hear back within three weeks
2/9/07 First interview offer - SUNY @ Buffalo. Also, my last application was complete as of today. Now it's time to play the waiting game and hope for some more interviews :)
2/27/07 Rejected from Creighton U. Still under committee review at UMiami - I 'haven't been rejected' yet so I assume my app has been been placed in a smaller pool; they invite for interviews thru March. My late primary application has probably put me at a bigger disadvantage than I originally thought.
3/1/07 Loyola update: Placed in smaller applicant pool for further review. Interview invites go out through March.
3/14/07 My interview at U at Buffalo went pretty smooth I think. Both interviews were laid back and only a couple 'standard' questions were asked in the otherwise conversational interviews. I should know my status sometime this week apparently.
3/15/07 updates U of MN: Should hear within 4-6 weeks of application being complete (so I should hear by 3/23). UMiami: File still under committee review. Loyola: File flagged for further review, and invites for interviews go through first part of April
3/16/07 First acceptance and huge relief! - SUNY Buffalo. Found out via a status page check this morning!!! :)
3/29/07 Updates UMiami: Apparently they're done intervewing on the main campus, but I hear I might still have a chance on the FAU campus. Loyola: Adcomm meets 'this week' to decide my fate. U of MN: Still have not been reviewed, but it may happen as early as next Wednesday.
4/24/07 I finally got an interview invitation from the University of MN - the last school I'm in the running for. Wish me luck!! I haven't received rejection letters from Miami or Loyola, but since they are done inviting people to interview its clear that I didn't get one.
Acceptance:Interview ratio in 2005 for U of MN is 1:2.6 according to medschoolready.com
5/5/07 Just got my last rejection for schools I'm in the running for (UMiami). I sent a LOI to the director of admissions at the U of MN yesterday and we were told during the interview we'd hear a decision by 5/15. Wish me luck!!
5/14/07 Haven't heard anything from the U of MN yet... I assume this means that I'm either not in or that I'm on the waitlist. I'll update tomorrow when I find out.
5/15/07 I'm #11 on the U of MN's alternate list right now. Apparently they got through ~30 of the alternates last year. U of MN is my top choice, so I'm extremely excited about being so high on the list!
6/1/07 The U of MN is still in the process of contacting people who have more than one acceptance after May 15th. So far there hasn't been anyone declining an acceptance from the class (unless there has been but just people who have received one of the acceptances in excess of the class size of 165). There should be some movement this week according to the admissions office. I have moved to #9 on their alternate list though because two people in the top ten withdrew their spots.
6/18/07 Another person on the U of MN alternate list in front of me withdrew, so I'm now #8. Based on what I've heard they are still overenrolled and may not use their alternates until sometime in July (maybe even late July). Right now it looks like I'm going to Buffalo
7/16/07 The director of admissions at the U of M basically told me that it would be in my best interest to take the acceptance at UB because he didn't foresee using the alternate list as the start date for classes is coming up quickly. I took his advice and withdrew from the U of M. My signed lease in Buffalo went out in the mail over the weekend.
