JULY 25, 2006 - just returned from a vacation to NYC. While there, I was able to scratch a couple of schools off the list - both SUNY Downstate and SUNY Stonybrook. While Stonybrook was gorgeous in its futuristic buildings out in the wilds of Long Island, I would rather be in an urban area. Plus state residency issues.
I fell head-over-heels IN LOVE with Cornell Weill in NYC. Not only do I hold a soft spot for Cornell because they accepted my mom into one of their PhD programs (that she, sadly, did not enroll in), but they are also a completely Apple computer-based school!!!! Over 140 stations in the library alone. I died and went to Mac heaven when I saw that. (P.S. I start my new job at Apple in 6 days!!!)
I briefly checked out Mt. Sinai, Columbia, the SUNYs, and Cornell while I was there. I really wanted to get to NYUSOM, but ran out of time, and AESOM was too far away from Brooklyn for this trip.
MARCH 2006 - This is a preliminary list of schools I am interested in. I'm still figuring that part out. I have to call them and find out what they will do with my situation, and then edit from there.
My sitch is this: No GPA from UCSC!!!
We only had Narrative Evaluations and P/NP for grades at the time, so I have some hard work ahead of me convincing adcoms to even look at my apps. My NEs show I was a strong student (if they could be translated, it would be ~ 3.5 GPA overall, 3.7 science), so hopefully with my unique background + planned perfect post-bacc GPA + planned high MCAT + planned volunteer/shadowing hours, I'll have some good options to choose from.
