  • Brief Profile: Graduated in 2011 with a BA in English. Have been post-bac ever since. Realized I wanted to attend medical school around 2012 and have been working towards improving myself as an applicant ever since. LM around 64, which is nothing to write home about; however I have some incredible ECs that span 2 years minimum for all activities and 7 years the longest. Plenty of clinical experiences and shadowing. Some research, nothing special. Have checked all the boxes and then some!

    Summary of Application Experience

URM, non-trad applicant. Mediocre undergrad GPA but huge upward trend in 6 years of post-bac and graduate work. Great ECs that span 5 years, mix of clinical and non-clinical activities. Lots of paid clinical work experiences. Certified Medical Assistant. Some research (mostly for graduate degree in Biology).

Update: So far, I have been blown away at the attention I have received from MD programs. I remember being hesitant to even apply this cycle. This has been a remarkable ride for me thus far. I am absolutely grateful. I have worked extremely hard and I am happy to see that schools are noticing that.

I have gone back and completed my profile as much as possible. I do hope it provides some much needed help to future applicants, especially those who think they have a long-shot, as did I. This process is unpredictable and you have control of very little after you submit. Put your best foot forward and let the cycle take its course. You will be surprised by some of the outcomes. This process is truly a life experience you wont forget. I wanted to document mine. I hope it helps someone!
