Summary of Application Experience
Old Score Expired. New Score 514 (128/127/130/129)
Decided to complete this in case anyone in the future finds themselves in a similar situation.
08/01/2017 - received Mayo AZ, Mayo MN, UCSD, UCR and Vermont.
02/21/18 - 5 WL and 1 Acceptance so far. Better than my previous two cycles (0II, then 2II and 2R no WL) but still disappointed. Its definitely difficult to overcome a low uGPA.
05/14/18- Unexpected acceptance to EVMS! Will have to decide between two great schools very soon.

First Interview Invite!!! Completely unexpected!! Cannot wait for September 1st.
Amazing school and an amazing institution. I am very big fan of the city. The staff and faculty seem supportive and the medical students are happy and seem to like it. The building is being remodeled, but that should be done by Fall 2018. P/F year one and two. 8-9 weeks of dedicated step study time (5 formal weeks and 4 weeks of reviews). UPMC. Excellent match list. Top choice.

Interview invite today. No e-mail. Saw the invite on my portal and scheduled it already. What a great day!!
Definitely a different experience. Detroit is a bigger city. Downtown and Midtown are nice but it can get very sketchy around the neighborhoods very quickly. They definitely recognize that the strength of their curriculum lies in their rotations and medical training. Detroit would be a great place to do clerkships and rotations. Pass/Fail/Honors. No more Z scores with should help with class competitiveness. LARGE class. Not sure how that affects camaraderie and class dynamics. Cost of living is going up a bit but it is not unreasonable for gentrified areas. Good match list and well known name across the country.
edit: Waitlist/Alternate. they do have a lot of movement, so hopefully this isnt too bad.

Attended the interview at EVMS. It is a great school. Student wellness is big for their students and everyone is very happy and friendly. The school itself is small but there are opportunities for service and research for every student. The student guide and student presentation were great and really sold the school. Would definitely envision myself attending medical school here.
edit: waitlist. Middle third. Oh well.

II!!!! Excited to finally get my interview invite from this school. A shot at staying in cali!
Enjoyed my interview experience at UCR. They are a new school and are working very hard at improving. The staff very welcoming. Mission based. They really do a good job at selecting candidates that can improve the region. They do love their own students but :I am hoping for a chance to stay in cali.

Oh man. This was a pleasant surprise this morning. Glad to know my CASPR score wasnt terrible
Really liked Burlington. I had a great time getting to know the students and had an amazing student host. The school cares about the students. Novel curriculum is interesting and might help in getting away rotations during 3/4th year. It gets REALLY cold. UVM hospital loves their students and they seem very helpful when you approach them. Thought the MMI went ok (cubicles did not do a good job at minimizing the noise from the other interviewers) and I enjoyed the team activity. I could see myself attending here.

I really enjoyed my interview at UIC, I had a tough question I hope I answered correctly, but I wont know for sure. I thought it was a great School. They have a new curriculum in place and they are actively working in solving the minor issues that are coming up with the current class. Very friendly student body, got to meet plenty of M1s during lunch time. I can definitely see myself attending this school. The rotation sorting algorithm system is a bit of a negative (big class, not enough rotation slots in their affiliated academic hospital). but not a deal breaker. I would have to complete a summer program, which isnt ideal but might actually help me in the long run.
