Summary of Application Experience
2/24/06- The application cycle is winding down and I have to say that it has been a trying experience. I can't believe how much of a crap shoot it actually is. Friends warned me that applying is a frustrating process but I am at a loss of words, figuratively. There is no way to predict where you will get interviews or who will get in where. I feel that the best tactic is to apply broadly and to drink frequently. At this point I just hope that I get in somewhere. Here's to out-of-state fees and snow.
3/10/06- I got the 'you're almost good enough' letter from UCLA today. I didn't expect to get accepted but I would be kidding myself if I didn't admit that I was hoping for the best. Oh well, the interminable wait continues.
3/18/06- Finalllllly got an acceptance from Penn State. What a fu#*king relief. I am so amped to finally ditch the post-bac applications and nightmares of reapplying. I am still going to go at UCLA with all I've got to convince them to give me a shot but at least I'm not terrified of them telling me to go to hell. Whew
3/20/06- UCD invite out of nowhere. It's been three months since my last invite. This one is for a waitlist spot but I'll take it!
4/07/06- Done! I have finally completed all of my interviews and I have to admit that I am relieved. My last interview was a blast. I absolutely loved Davis and I feel that it would be a great fit for me personally. I really did my best to explain my low bcpm, a result of two c's in calculus combined with a relatively small number of science units, and my desire to attend Davis. Well, now I'm off to Europe for six weeks to decompress and to do something other than stress about crap I can't really control. Time to just hope for the best...
6/01/06- Returned from Europe today hoping for good news from Davis but all I got was an email telling me to continue waiting. What else is new. I got my bags stolen in Europe the day I got there, the airline's fault not mine, and then got an acceptance from Drexel a week later. A little bit of a roller coaster. Nothing takes your mind off med school admissions like being stuck in Spain with absolutely nothing but cash and a passport. I decided to stick with Penn State. It is a little more my pace in terms of location and size. I am still hoping for a late CA surprise but I am prepared to set up camp in the east coast. I guess it's time to wait, some more.
6/9/06- Waitlisted at Davis today and I was told yesterday that I am in the bottom half of the MCW waitlist. I am cool with forgetting about MCW but I really hope that Davis finds a spot for me. I guess I am just going to keep writing update letters to UCD and UCLA until the first day of classes. Might not do any good but at least I'll know I tried.
