10/27: created MD applicant profile after becoming addicted to SDN. Still waiting to hear from UVM & Drexel and any other school that wants to interview me. Have Georgetown and Creighton coming up.
10/31: Happy Halloween--received my first rejection from UVM :( Probably the first of many. Too bad, I liked the school too.
11/3: Interviewed at PCOM. Interview panel of admissions, physician, faculty member and student. But they were very nice, no out of the ordinary questions. I think it went OK, I might have rambled too much--i gotta work on that. Hopefully I'll know in 1 month like they said.
11/4: Rejected from Boston University via EMAIL, post-secondary, no interview.
11/16: Checked the UPenn status page today after seeing on SDN that other people's statuses have changed. Not what I wanted to see though...my interview decision has been deferred. Wonder if that means a rejection is coming or if I will get a second chance?!?!?
11/19: FIRST ACCEPTANCE!! Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine! 2 week turnaround time, I am very impressed. This was my top choice osteopathic school, so I will be withdrawing my apps from the others. Relieved to know that I have somewhere to go next year! I'm gonna be a doctor =)
12/1: Georgetown interview! I really do like their philosophy of medicine and their dedication to serving the underserved. Interview was a slightly different format--wasn't totally prepared for the 'Ok you be the doctor I'm the patient question'
12/5: Invited for a UMass interview for 12/14. Not much notice but it's ok because I'm local. This is one of my top choice schools so I am very excited!
12/6: Email response from Drexel status inquiry: 'Your file will go to committee in the next few weeks.' What?!? It's already been 8 weeks and 3 days! Very bummed--will be sending in the PCOM deposit tomorrow. Bank account = -$250
12/8-12/9: Adventure to Creighton University interview! Flight delays, cancelations and airport floors did not keep me away! I ended up being 3 hours late, but the staff was very accomodating. I missed out on all the morning stuff and a lot of time with the students so I don't know how good of a feel I got for the school. I think the interviews went well, but I don't know if I could make a good decision about the school based on what I saw.
12/15: Rejected from UConn via snail mail. Letter dated 12/5. Not too disappointed--I knew it was a long shot being OOS. I basically applied there because it was close to home.
1/9: ACCEPTED TO CREIGHTON! First MD acceptance! Very quick turnaround time, considering the holidays fell right in the middle! I wish all the other schools modeled themselves after this one! I will stil wait to hear the 3 other post-interview decisions before I make any of my own decisions.
1/25: Facing the music.
Received rejection from Georgetown via snail mail on 1/17. Letter right on time, but definitely not what I wanted to see. Georgetown was at the top of my list for schools I interviewed at. I guess I mixed up liking the school so much with a good interview. Because thinking back, I guess it was not my best interview. Oh well. And to top it all off, I received a rejection from Upstate the same day! Talk about cruelty. I was on hold and wasn't that excited about the school, but please, one rejection per day is plenty!!
*On a positive note I received an interview for SLU on 1/20; I've scheduled it for 2/14. Been complete since August!
2/1: Received rejection from Brown over the weekend. Not too surprised. I love how rejection letters state, we are UNABLE to offer you an interview, so therefore you cannot be considered for the class of 2010. Well you are perfectly ABLE to offer me an interview, you just don't WANT to!!!
3/6: Off to Philadelphia tomorrow for 2 interviews! Very excited, praying I don't mess these up! Update letters, phone calls, and emails got me these interviews.
*Edit 3/7: Going into interviews with a confidence booster--accepted at SLU today!
4/17: Waitlisted at Jefferson and Temple. Both via snail mail. I guess it's better than being rejected, well, depending on how you look at it. I think I better start thinking about Creighton vs. SLU.
5/4: So all the results are in: 3 acceptances (1 osteopathic, 2 allopathic), 3 waitlists, 5 withdrawals pre interview, and 16 rejections. Although I'm excited to be going somewhere, I'd LOVE to go to Jefferson or Temple, so I'm rooting for them to decide to tell me they want me. I have 11 days to decide between the three. I think I know where I am leaning....which would you pick?!?!?
5/15: Decided on SLU...
6/6: Accepted off the Temple waitlist today! Via email. During my waiting on the waitlist I sent a letter of interest/update, an additional LOR from my current supervisor, and another email of interest to the Dean. I guess it worked! I'll be picking Temple over SLU. Will be withdrawing from Drexel waitlist. Will probably stay on JMC waitlist, seeing as I sent them a letter of intent.
