Summary of Application Experience
I am an underdog from a numbers standpoint. However, my GPA suffers from two horrible semesters 8&9 years ago. After I transferred got my degree and finshed pre-reqs, my GPA is more like 3.4-3.6. Who knows?
8/15/05 LOR's are on their way and all secondaries will be done by the 18th; revising essays.
10/8/05 One interview thus far, otherwise, I haven't heard anything from anywhere but Madison. I'm remaining optimistic - perhaps this means I'm competitive enough to remain in the interview pile, but not competitive enough for an early interview. The waiting continues...
10/21/05 Returned from vacation to find 3 rejections in the mail:Case, MCW, and Pritzker. 7 schools left to hear from....
10/23/05 UW dropped the hammer on me today... No love from the state school - but there is my Wake Forest interview to look forward to.
12/19/05 Accepted to my number one choice - Wake Forest. Maybe my line 'I applied to Wake Forest and had 13 back-ups.' let then know I was serious about attending. With my grades I was sure I would need a SMP or MS to elevate my GPA - but Wake took the time to actually look at my resume and determine that I HAVE BECOME a good student - though I wasn't always ;)
As for the outstanding schools... I'm just going to wait them out and see if they offer interviews (really just so I can say they offered an interview and I shut them down.)
Moving to Winston-Salem in April! It's been the best Christmas ever - Good luck and Best Wishes to all hopefuls with less than stellar stats. Medical schools want intelligent, trainable, mature, and socially competent people with a strong drive to become a physician - not punks with impressive numbers and meaningless resume fluff.
'Whatever was sufficient to get us to this point is insufficient to get us further.' -fortune cookie
3/2/2006 I received an email rejection from Emory today - you have to laugh. I'm closing on a house in Winston-Salem in 29 days. I really did apply to one school but had a ton of backups.
7/17/2006 I begin medical school in one week. Best of luck to all future applicants.
