Summary of Application Experience
Second time applying after getting the Master's from Northwestern University. I didn't know where I was going till June, so I guess this process took a whole year. I'm non-trad with a below average undergrad performance. However, I have tons of research exp with several publications (2 first author papers and other co-authors. THe Master's really helped me by allowing me to get recent coursework and obtain some really strong LORs. My weakness was my lack of recent clinical and volunteer experience. (I had next to none) But I think my past community work and my background might have spoke to my character.
I applied to 14 schools, 3 interviews, 3 waitlists, 1 acceptance. My interviews were at OH schools that encourage research. My advice to try your best to have the well rounded application. It's possible to get in without shadowing a doc but it will make the process all the more difficult.
