4/17 So that completes my cycle. I was rejected from AECOM--totally don't care about that anymore, so it wasn't a big deal. Now I have to decide between Jefferson and Drexel (I'm turning down Penn State). I am requesting a deferral for a year either way. I will update with my final decision when I make it, but it will probably be Drexel. :)
1/21 I have to admit I was pretty upset about the AECOM waitlist. At this point I'm not sure what my plan is. I'm going to send an addition LOR or 2 as well as an update letter to AECOM. I can't send a letter of intent because I'm not 100% sure I'd go there if I got in. I'm starting to like the idea of staying in Philly and going to Drexel, where I feel comfortable and the people are nice.
12/6 I withdrew from Temple today. Actually, my email to them was a bit harsh, but I think they deserve it. It's been 4 months since I've been complete there and they haven't even contacted me once, and every time I call they are extremely rude. Their loss :p
11/20 I'm a bit mystified over my Penn State waitlist. Not that I think anybody has an easy entrance to any school, but it's my state school, so I was (arrogantly) sort of expecting to get in. Now I'm extremely worried about AECOM, which may be my top choice at the moment. I'm getting my additional LOR sent to AECOM as well. They don't send out decisions until Jan. 15, so I have some waiting to do.
I also have a new-found compassion for what my husband went through when applying. He had to apply twice because he applied late the first time, and in spite of an excellent application was rejected from almost everywhere even the second time. It must have been such a hard thing to go through. I'm lucky to have 2 acceptances already, but even so rejection/waitlists hurt. So I wish strength and hope to all of you going through the more negative aspects of this process.
11/13 My MUSC interview is this week. Looking forward to it. I'm still upset about Pitt. I saw a profile of somebody with the same total MCAT score and a lower GPA who was accepted to Pitt, and it made me upset again. I'm thinking maybe they rejected me because I dropped out of grad school, and they're big on research. I'm still hoping to hear from Penn, though. Last week I gave my boss/PI some envelopes to send an additional LOR, so maybe it will help.
11/7 Ouch. The first rejection hurts. I guess I should totally give up on Emory and Penn now. I'm considering writing a letter of intent to Penn, but it probably wouldn't do any good.
10/14 I have to travel to Charleston for my family in November, so I called MUSC and they told me to come for an interview on 11/18. So that really helps me, because I won't have to make two trips! I'm also hoping to start hearing from schools soon...Jefferson was great, and it's one of my top choices now :)
10/10 I have my Jefferson interview on Wednesday, but I haven't heard from any schools in over a month. I don't know what's happening with Temple. I'd love to hear from Pitt. In response to the comment about the one C, I had a bunch of B's as well. The C was in a 5-credit course, so it did hurt. I also had a B first semester orgo, which was 5 credits (A second semester) and B and B+ in chemistry, and a B in calc II (keep in mind I didn't know I was pre-med! :) ). That C in physics did bring me down from magna to regular cum laude, though :p Bio courses were As though (I had a ton of them).
9/16 My first interview (Einstein) went well. Too bad I have to wait until January to hear from them! Looking forward to my upcoming interviews, and hoping to get some more.
8/8 I am complete at the schools that have received my secondaries. LORs have been received. I'm hoping to start getting interviews soon.
8/1 I'm starting to get more doubtful about my chances. I wonder if I will even get an interview from Penn. I keep returning to that 9 on the PS section and my BCPM GPA. Well, worrying won't do me any good. I'll have to wait and see. So far I've gotten 6 out of 10 secondaries.
7/19 I'm now in my third week working as a clinical research coordinator. This is something I am describing on my secondaries. I'm getting a ton of clinical experience every single day, which is awesome! I can't wait to talk about it in interviews.
6/22 AMCAS processed as of 8 a.m. I changed my GPA above; it was calculated slightly lower than I anticipated. Senior year GPA is lowest (that C in physics) and grad school is also low, which doesn't look good. Based on this I am not expecting to see much action from the higher ranked schools on my list. Anything can happen, though.
6/16 I bit the bullet. AMCAS submitted.
6/15 update: Got my scores. Happy with BS, thought I might have gotten higher in VR but happy with the 13, and very disappointed with the PS. Anyway I won't have to take it over, and I ought to be able to get into some of my schools. Submitting application tomorrow.
5/30: I am planning to submit AMCAS on June 15, after receiving my MCAT scores. I'm currently starting to volunteer in a hospital and I'm planning to do more shadowing, so I'll either use this for school updates or just on interviews.
I was in graduate school for a bit more than a semester before leaving to pursue medicine. I've discussed this decision in my PS but I'm sure it will come up on every interview. Of course that's more research experience. Unfortunately I don't have LORs from grad school but hopefully that is understandable.
I got a C in first semester physics (calc based) for explainable reasons; it brought my BCPM GPA down quite a bit (5 credit course). Other than that my BCPM grades are really pretty good. All bio classes are As.
My husband is a student at Drexel, and it's a great school.
