Summary of Application Experience
I only applied to a few schools, based on location and whether or not I felt like I was a good fit with their mission statement. It was a long, frustrating cycle and I recommend applying much more broadly than I did, as I would have had much more success that way. I applied very early, and had to wait a long time to hear from most schools. Was not too happy with the outcomes though I ended up at a school that I really love and have been excelling at.
As far as the mcat scores go, ignore the writing score as I took it after that was taken out of the test. This was also my second time taking the MCAT. got an 11/9/11 bs/vr/ps the first time. GPA had a huge upward trend as I was a slacker out of high school and only hit my stride once deciding on medicine as a career.
Extracurriculars were relatively strong. Lots of leadership activities, as I held board positions on three different clubs, years of clinical experience, TA work, etc. No research experience and minimal volunteer work which could have definitely played a role in my only receiving a few acceptances. I feel that my strengths lie in my interpersonal skills, and the intangibles which can not be evaluated on paper.
Summary of Experience:
Interview invite offered VERY late in the cycle...due to distance from family, and already being accepted closer to home, I chose not to attend the interview
emt2md23 took the old MCAT and scored a 35 which is in the 96th percentile of all old scores.
We converted this to a 517 on the updated scale which is in the 95th percentile of the updated MCAT. We also converted emt2md23’s section scores as follows:
