I had a unique application. ~500 h of regular community/clinical service, 2000 h abroad working with an NGO--like the Peace Corps. Spent 3-5 years as a postbacc. Did not expect to have a good cycle, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Advice: PLEASE do some research as an undergrad if you want to go to top schools. PLEASE do not take the MCAT until you're ready. PLEASE submit your apps as early as possible. PLEASE take your personal statement extremely seriously.
Summary of Experience:
Disappointing I didn't get a II from Sinai... really liked the school & what it stands for in the modern world. Glad they accept so many students from a liberal arts background.
Summary of Experience:
I was so shocked to have been invited to interview at UCSF. It has been my dream school since I was 14.
That being said, they rejected me. It was so disappointing. I got along so well with one of my two interviewers, but I didn't click with my first one ... and I didn't have sci. research experience.
I dislike closed file interviews because there is so much riding on a single person's interpretation of you rather than who you actually are.
I would still do anything to go there. My SO is going there in the fall, and I'll be applying here for residency. I love this place!
Summary of Experience:
Hofstra was my first interview, and I didn't do that well at it. That being said, it's been 5 months, and they haven't even told me if I've been accepted or not. That's way too long of a timeline and, to me, unprofessional.
Summary of Experience:
I am so sold on Columbia. Their new building is beyond beautiful, and the professors there were just beyond excellent. It is an absurdly good school, and the P&S Club values students to have a artistic life outside of medicine!
Dean Nicholas was also a riot! Very fun to talk to and it was clear that he took genuine interest in us as students. I am 1 of 700 supposedly on the waitlist, though, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
Summary of Experience:
Didn't love EVMS but didn't hate it. I have friends at the school who are enjoying their time, but this was not my first choice.
Summary of Experience:
I liked Jeff. The student body is diverse; Jefferson is in a gorgeous part of the city; and, the school is an old and outstanding institution.
That being said, the interview felt like a rat race. Students kept on recommending other interviewees to crowd around the deans and shake their hands, etc. That part of the day was too much... you shouldn't actually have to shake your hands, wine and dine, your way to an acceptance.
Summary of Experience:
Really great people at WVU. Just super kind and thoughtful. Intimate class size. They were my first acceptance, and I sincerely loved my experience there.
