Brief Profile:
Physics major turned on to medicine right around graduation. Took a year to do some clinical work, an informal post-bacc, and take the MCAT. Here we go!
Summary of Experience:
"The Admissions Committee has carefully reviewed your application for admission to the School of Medicine at New York Medical College. We regret we are unable to offer you a place in the class entering in August of 2016. Acceptance to the School of Medicine is highly competitive. This year our program received more than 13,000 applications to seat a class of 200. To gain acceptance, applicants must possess a combination of strong academic preparation, relevant foundational experiences and requisite personal attributes. Within the framework of this holistic review, the committee has concluded your credentials do not meet this threshold at this time.
Keep in mind many applicants do reapply in subsequent years. If you decide to do so, you are encouraged to evaluate which parts of your application might be strengthened such as MCAT scores, academic performance in science coursework, greater clinical exposure and/or involvement in activities related to a career in medicine or more life experience, in general. It is strongly suggested you speak with your pre-med advisor or other faculty who know you, and with whom you have had recent contact. These individuals are in the best position to offer you advice.
Thank you for your interest in New York Medical College, and best wishes for the future."
Summary of Experience:
"Complete - Application Update
The Committee on Admissions reviewed your application but has not invited you for an interview at this time. Additional reviews will occur and any change in your status will be communicated to you."
Summary of Experience:
"The Committee on Admissions has completed its review of your application and has unfortunately decided not to pursue your candidacy further. We would like to thank you for your interest in the Pritzker School of Medicine and the effort you invested in your application. Every year we receive many applications from highly qualified applicants such as you, but we are limited in the number we are able to accept. So, while we know this outcome may be disappointing, we hope that you understand that our decision is a reflection of a very large pool of accomplished candidates and not a judgment on your abilities.
We wish you all the very best as you pursue your interests in medicine."
Summary of Experience:
"The Admissions Committee for The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University has completed its review of your application to the MD Class of 2020. Regretfully, I am writing to inform you that your application was not selected for interview consideration, and will go no further in our review process.
The Committee appreciates the time and effort that you devoted to the preparation of your application and supporting materials. While our policy does not allow for discussion of individual decisions, be assured that your application was considered with thoroughness and care. Our applicant pool is large, and we are only able to interview a small percentage of applicants.
I extend my best wishes for success in your academic and career plans."
Summary of Experience:
"We have given your application careful consideration and regret to inform you that the Committee on Admission will not be able to offer you a position in the first year class entering in mid August, 2016.
We realize that you may be disappointed by this action, but our decision should not be construed as a criticism of your credentials. Although most of our applicants would do well in medical school, we are unable to offer interviews to more than a small percentage of candidates. The Committee makes difficult choices in selecting a class of 120 students from approximately 4,300 applicants. While it is understandable that you would like to know more about the reasons for your denial, given the volume of applications to Hopkins, it is impossible to give specific feedback to candidates for admission.
The Committee thanks you for your interest in Johns Hopkins. We trust that you will not be discouraged by our inability to offer you a position at this school and wish you every success in your pursuit of a medical career. "
Summary of Experience:
"Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed by a member of our Admissions Committee. While we have decided not to invite you for an interview at this time, we would like to re-evaluate your application again in the spring should interview spots remain. We have many completed applications to review and wish to hold on a final decision on your application until later in the cycle. Again, thank you for your interest in Drexel College of Medicine. "
Summary of Experience:
"Unfortunately, I am writing to tell you that you have not been chosen to interview this year. I still hope that your desire to be of service will be fulfilled."
Popped my rejection cherry!
This sucks because: 1) Not the best way to start off 2) I applied to a bunch of schools with higher stats so this might not bode well 3) Missing out on California weather, even in spite of the slightly apocalyptic drought and wildfire problem going on over there.
This is not the end of the world because: 1) Flying out to interview would be expensive 2) Their essays were really odd, so it seemed like a crapshoot anyways 3) I applied to 27 other great schools that might bite and grant me an interview.
Speaking of that, I still have 7 more secondaries to submit. Back to writing essays......
