Summary of Application Experience
I'm in my mid twenties, so I guess I'm non trad. Although that doesn't mean that I haven't had a bunch of fun with the traditional applicants I meet at interviews and Second Looks. I haven't stressed out about this process, it's been quite fun for me to meet a bunch of people and travel the US.
For grades, I had a sub average freshman year and then have been pretty much perfect since. So I guess I have a good grade trend. Classes weren't hard once I found a reason and a major that made studying worthwhile. I'm a Bio major with Spanish minor.
About 500 hours of community service, some clinical and some not. Including interpreting in the hospital, hospice, and summer camps with superstar kids.
like 500 hours of research in various places. I did both basic science research and clinical. No publications, although I got close;)
Leadership positions as a lecturer, an anatomy lab TA, and as the head of an innovation group that won a prize for developing a prototype of a new medical device--we got one of those giant checks, mark that off of my bucket list!
Shadowed like 90 hours with probably 8 different doctors. That was a lot of fun.
I had two international experiences, one was long term (like years) and another was short term (a week). Both took place in Spanish speaking areas cause that's what I do.
I'm glad I didn't keep track of all my expenses, because it would probably make me vomit on the spot if someone told me right now. Pray your loved ones have some frequent flyer miles, or just be smart and a little more selective in where you choose to interview.
IN THE END, I will be matriculating at Duke. For my situation, there couldn't be a better school. I feel very blessed to attend my tippity toppity choice medical school.

Summary of Experience:
I sent an "in the area" email for the time when I was in town for my Columbia interview. No luck.
Summary of Experience:
I wrote some possibly controversial stuff in my "free-write" secondary that I figured they would either like or dislike. Perhaps that's what did me in, or perhaps I'm just not Hahvahd material. I would have liked to have at least visited Boston.
Summary of Experience:
The only UC school I applied to, since I'm out of state. I was hoping for a chance to attend med school on the beach in La Jolla.
Summary of Experience:
I loved the surrounding neighborhood because I love Dominican food. My interviewer here was one of the most prepared I encountered during the cycle. Dean Nicholas is a fantastic character. Don't read too much into the letter he sends you in response to thank you notes. I'm glad I visited NYC
Summary of Experience:
My state school did not do a great job at selling themselves on interview day. You eat lunch at the same cafeteria as undergraduate freshmen, kind of lame comparatively.
Summary of Experience:
Very professional experience at Hopkins. The students were more down to earth than I expected. I liked Baltimore a lot more than most people--I don't think it's that bad if you are selective in where you look.
The faculty are awesome, the facilities are amazing, I fit perfectly with the student body, and they're the national basketball champions. What more could I want.
Summary of Experience:
I grew up on Penn Street in my hometown, so this was a dream come true.
While Penn eventually offered me an 80% tuition scholarship, it didn't match the needs as well as Duke and Durham. An amazing school and city. If only I could attend two medical schools.
Summary of Experience:
I liked Wash U far more than I expected, I would be happy here and it would open the doors to any residency program. Great facilities and resources.
In the end they gave me the least competitive financial aid package of all the schools I was accepted to. Thus I withdrew.
Summary of Experience:
I really like the idea of the MD with a Masters in Applied Anatomy. Their hospital system is pretty robust. Their twitter feed loves Lebron.
