Summary of Application Experience
I attended a state school in my rural home state. I have a unique, artistic background and an 'interesting' life story. I am not URM or disadvantaged. I found MDApps to be very helpful as I was making my school list, so I hope this can be of some help to others! I will continue to add more details to it as I decide where to go to school. :) I'm feeling beyond grateful to have choices!

This is the only rejection that I am still a little sad about!
Summary of Experience:
A little surprised about this rejection. My stats fall above their 90th percentile. The rejection e-mail was riddled with typos and was dated April of 2013. Hum.
Summary of Experience:
Phew, definitely the most intense secondary I've completed. Though I haven't heard anything back yet, I am glad I applied and completed the secondary. It helped to round out my thoughts and prepare me for interviews!
Summary of Experience:
Hold Status on 10/16. This is my absolute, top choice dream school. It truly is a utopia of medicine, the Google of medicine. I was in awe my entire visit to Rochester. PROS: -50 students per class. 11 faculty per 1 student!!! The med students are integrated in the patient care starting very early. Because they are so few med students, they get to see a ton of stuff and the Mayo docs are always eager to work with them. - The facilities are ASTOUNDING! Wow. Didn't get to see the Sim Lab, although I'm sure it's beautiful. I love that some of the Mayo campus feels Harry Potter-esque in its buildings, while other parts are so contemporary and unique. -Selectives. After every block, you have two weeks 'off' to explore different types of medicine and different interests in medicine. Selectives can be done anywhere in the country. This gives the students such early exposure to different fields! -Research heavy. Required research in the third year. -TRUE pass/fail years 1 and 2
CONS: -Not really a con for me, but I know some feel that Rochester is too small a city for them. I thought it had a very friendly, lively atmosphere and Minneapolis is close enough to visit on the weekends, if so desired. Also, there are so many opportunities to travel that this is a total non-issue for me!
Summary of Experience:
Wow, I was so shocked and excited to receive an interview here. It was one of my dream, reach schools. They were extremely accommodating with scheduling, which I appreciated. The facilities are quite amazing, though we didn't get to see the library, lecture halls, or other study areas. My student interview was quite laid back, we discussed my application and Weill-Cornell. My second interview was with a top NYC neurosurgeon, and he was extremely intimidating. He made me feel like quite the underdog (which indeed, I am one at Cornell!). PROS: 1. Location in Manhattan is a plus for me, as I am absolutely in love with the city. For some this may be a con, as students live in small dorms on campus. 2. Excellent research opportunities 3. Excellent clinical opportunities (Sloan-Kettering, what!?) 4. The students seemed happy and welcoming. 5. Lots of opportunities to explore arts and humanities CONS: 1. Expensive (tuition upward of 50 grand) That is the only con I can think of!
Summary of Experience:
Wow, as an OOSer I am so, so humbled to be accepted here. Truly a fabulous institution in a wonderful city!!! Only con I can think of is the letter grading during second year. LOVED this school and could definitely see myself here!!!
Summary of Experience:
I was so pleasantly surprised by Oakland!! It's in a lovely part of Michigan, gorgeous campus and beautiful facilities. All of the faculty were extremely helpful and friendly! I really appreciated how detailed their interview day is, and I liked that they took us to the hospital for a tour there, too. My first interview was most intense than I expected! I got grilled about different issues in healthcare, which was unexpected. Second interview was much more laid back. Again, very impressed by Oakland!
PROS: -Beautiful campus -Anatomy lab is the BEST I have seen of any school! -Happy students that seem well cared for and listened to -Awesome location
CONS: -Hospital is 45 minutes away from campus. This shouldn't be a huge issue though, since you don't spend much time on campus during third and fourth year anyway. -Newer med school, so some things still changing and/or being tested out.
Summary of Experience:
I can see that Hofstra has a lot going for it, especially in terms of a cutting edge curriculum. I didn't love the location by any means, though I didn't get to see much of Long Island while I was there. Student interview went really well and was very laid back, faculty interview was a little strange - interviewer kept cutting me off so I really never had the chance to answer his questions. He also mostly asked me specifics about where I had applied, interviewed, been accepted and rejected. A little strange.
