Summary of Application Experience
AMCAS Submitted: 7/4/13 AMCAS Verified: 8/19/13
Took the MCAT twice and improved by 8 points the second time around. I attribute this to the post-bac and forming better study habits.
Extracurricular Activities: ESL Tutor for 1 year during undergrad High School Mentor for 3 years during post-bac Shadowing experiences: Family Medicine, Surgery, Gastroenterology, & Radiology for a one summer during undergrad Quality Assurance in the Operating Room for one summer during undergrad 2 years of research experience combined in the following areas: ER department, Women's Health, Translational Medicine, and Sleep Medicine after post-bac Community health volunteer in lower income area for 3 years during post-bac Certifications/Skills: Phlebotomy, blood processing, database creation, etc. Dancer for 10 years from high school to the present
This application cycle was long and expensive, but well worth it. I ended up getting a total of 6 interview invitations, went to 4 interviews, and got accepted to two schools, and waitlisted for one. Considering my low gpa from undergrad I would say this was an amazing turn out. Also, I spent a lot of time strategizing in order to produce such a successful outcome.
Strengths in my application: - Did a part-time post-bac for two years at Penn to prove I could handle the coursework - Volunteered and did research during my time in the post-bac - Spent a lot of time on my personal statement (and I mean allloooooot of time making sure it was perfect) - Applied somewhat early - Spent 2 weeks turning in practically all of my secondaries. Made an excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the schools, and filled out the ones that were both easy/and easier schools to get into. - Applied to 45 schools - Killed the interview (I am really good at interviewing and was confident I could sell myself pretty well) - Committee letter from Penn, and great recommendations from my employers
Weakness: - A less than stellar MCAT and gpa, but I was able to overcome this by showing a vast improvement from my previous MCAT score and sgpa - Did not have a state school :( because my state school no longer considered me a resident, and I failed to establish residency any where else

UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson

Summary of Experience:
Got tired of filling out secondaries and spending money so I decided to stop here. This was going to be my last secondary but I got my first acceptance before I had a chance to finish.
Summary of Experience:
They wrote me saying I didn't qualify for in-state tuition so I will assume that means I do not qualify as an in-state candidate; which means I can't go here because they only let in in-state. A little annoying but what can I do.
Summary of Experience:
They never sent me a letter or email but I checked online and the status said "no interview invite" so I assumed it was a rejection.
Summary of Experience:
Long shot but maybe they will have pity. What is more frustrating is working at this hospital and watching all of the prospective medical students on their interview taking a tour. The torture lol.
Summary of Experience:
This is a reach school but they sent me a letter encouraging me to apply; which was shocking so I decided to apply just based off that. I think they might have sent the letter to the wrong house lol. Also, it is the only school I know that is not rolling basis.
Not surprised at my rejection, but I must say they're rejection letter was the most positive I have ever received. I think I might apply here again for residency or a fellowship; at least that is what the letter encouraged me to do :).
Summary of Experience:
I got an interview invite right after my interview at Cooper. I knew I wasn't going to choose this school over Cooper so I cancelled my interview and withdrew my application.
Summary of Experience:
I'm getting no love from my state schools right now...I haven't heard back from any thus far. Also, this is one of the few schools that screen first before sending a secondary
Finally received an interview yay!!! :). First interview went really well. The second interview started out rocky because he tried to trip me up and really grilled me on a lot of difficult questions (especially my grades from undergrad), but at the end he gave me the greatest compliment which made me think he might have actually liked me. We will see soon enough.
Waitlisted - I already knew that my heart was with Cooper, and there were plenty of people who did not get other offers and were on the waitlist; so I decided to withdraw.
Summary of Experience:
Loved everything about this school from the new facilities, to the awesome curriculum, and wonderful faculty who you can tell truly care about their students. Which is why it is my top choice :). So excited this was my first acceptance. Now I can relax.
I decided I am going to Cooper for the class of 2018!!! Yay!!!! So excited and nervous.
Summary of Experience:
Great school with a long standing history. Clinical years would be great here because they have like 10 well-established hospitals in the area. Also I have family here that I haven't seen in like a decade and had a chance to re-connect with them which was great; except they really want me to come here now. I think the class size is a little too big for me, and the campus seems to take up the whole city. It reminds me of my undergrad school which is also big on sports and has a big class size. I think I may want something different this time around.
