Summary of Application Experience
First time applicant, applied to and was passed through my school's pre-professional committee. 1000+ hours of research, 1000+ hours of mixed volunteer hours with 200+ medical volunteer hours. 50 Hours of shadowing experience, countless leadership experiences, full undergraduate scholarship, 7 letters of reco - 1 from committee, 1 from a DO, 1 from science faculty, 1 from leadership experiences, 1 from the dean of my college, 1 from my research mentor, 1 from a second science faculty member that I TA'd for.
Summary of Experience:
The interview was very chill and relaxed. We were brought into a classroom and provided with a lunch buffet and a chance to mingle with M1's for about 45 minutes. Afterward, we were shown a presentation on the school and there were some talks from some of the administration.
The actual interview portion was between myself and two members of the faculty. We chatted about why I wanted to go to med school, and then specifically why I wanted to go to Pikeville, and then we spent the rest of the time just talking about the field in general. It felt like a nice conversation with educated people, and certainly not like a quiz or a test.
After the interview, we went on a campus tour with some med students, and then the interview day was concluded.
Overall, I really enjoyed learning more about the school and the education offered. After visiting the campus I can definitely say that this school ranks in my top tier of choices. Not only is it a smaller school, but it's located in a town I can see myself living in, not too far from my hometown. Add in the benefits - laptop, iPad, ALL YOUR BOOKS, stethoscope, OMM Table, plus they pay for your COMLEX Step 1 & 2, along with the fact that they are one of the top 5 affordable schools in the country, and the choice seems to already be made for me.
Summary of Experience:
The interview was nice and relaxed. We were in a room, separate from the rest of the campus. There were 8 of us on my interview day, and we had our interviews with two separate doctors, one-on-one, for 30 minutes each. Then we had a short presentation about the school, then lunch with a few first year students. After lunch, we interviewed one-on-one with a current second year. After this, we went on a building tour and then a tour of the campus and of the town. The tour guide was very helpful, providing information on where to live and where not to live, as well as notable facts about the town and things to do. After the tour, we returned to the school for a short financial aid presentation and then were let go for the day. Great school, great numbers, great town.
