Did not apply with my MPhil degree (my current school program), but my acceptance was one of my waitlist updates. I'm not sure if updating that I was accepted to a Masters program and indicating that I would seek deferral helped me get off the waitlist, but it's possible I suppose.

06/12/2014: Accepted off the waitlist to NYU!!!
06/13/2014: Granted deferral so I can finish my current graduate degree and then enter with the class of 2019.
