Summary of Application Experience
I am not a URM (cuban) so that shouldn't be taken into account. I also went from community college to a state school (3rd tier) to finally get to Rice, so that is an interesting story. Worked a full time job for 2 years after high school and took a year off before college. Applied Disadvantaged status after much deliberation about the matter, and recieved Fee Assistance Program (FAP) from AAMC in case that matters. Disadvantaged and FAP don't apply to TMDSAS system (though I included my disadvantaged status/essay on the TMDSAS supplemental section). August MCAT. Philosophy Major. Good luck everyone.
*Edit 2/1: I got into UTSW!!!! I am so happy right now, I can't explain it. It has been a long process, but it was definitely worth it. I would recommend everyone who is applying not give up hope and to keep an open mind; you never know where you will interview or get accepted! Also, get your apps in early and don't let others discourage you, if you have a passion for medicine they will see it.
