Summary of Application Experience
SR - Secondary Received. SS - Secondary Sent C - Completed P - Pooled H - Hold II - Interview Invite IA - Interview Attended WL - Waitlisted A - Accepted W - Withdrew
Summary of Experience:
Fee Request: 7/1/12, Letter of Rec Request: 7/13/12, C: 7/13/12, R: 8/15/12. It was a good run while it lasted. It was fun writing haiku on your forum Mayo.
Summary of Experience:
SR: 7/6/12, SS: 7/9/12, C: 7/19/12, R: 9/6/12. I was pretty depressed about this one. I thought I had a shot here because I definitely wrote a better secondary response for this school than what I wrote for GW.
Withdrew. Due to Hurricane Sandy, my interview schedule got really messed up. My interview date overlapped with my other rescheduled interview. I chose to attend the other interview instead of this one. Upon further review, I also found that I like USF Select program more.
Second interview invite! It came exactly one month after my first II.
Withdrew after USF acceptance. I visited the campus a couple of months ago, and thought it was very pretty. However, I do not think I would choose this school over USF.
Rescheduled it to a later date that would be closer to my VCU interview :]
Withdrew after USF acceptance. Heard great things about the school's community outreach. However, due to hurricane Sandy, my interview schedule is completely messed up.
My interviewer is the chairman of the board at AE O.o! I did not find out about this till the interview was over. Overall, the interview was very relaxing and conversational. There were many typical interview questions.
Pros: - Lots of abroad opportunities. - The school fund the abroad trips - Many clinical opportunities - Friendly staff - Students seem very happy and collaborative - Very low debt - Close to NYC
Cons: - Okay facilities - Not much around the school
The Bottom Line: Although nothing really stood out for me during my visit, Albert Einstein exemplified a great fit in terms of curriculum, abroad opportunities, and many other factors. This school is definitely one of my top choices.
They are very receptive to LOI. I am excited for this interview.
After two hurricanes, I finally arrived in Burlington, Vermont. I really enjoyed my interview day. However, I dont think my interviewer read my file beforehand. We basically went over every activity in my application.
Pros: - Four different rotation sites - Friendly and informative staff - Super happy and friendly students - Public health project - Scholarly project/Teaching Practicum - Many outdoor activities - Very pretty hospital
Cons: - Take Step 1 early - Burlington is not exactly the most exciting place
The Bottom Line: I can definitely see myself here. And now... I wait.
Update: Out of area waitlist :( Although I know most people get waitlisted first, I am still disappointed. I loved my visit. Hopefully, I will hear good news later on.
My first interview invite! It was a huge relief. I love this school!
My interviews were very conversational. However, my faculty interviewer was a pro as she showed no emotion and just stared me down for 30 mins.
Pros: - Lots of awesome opportunities - Early clinical exposure - Relaxed atmosphere - DC! Lots to do. - Love the track program - Love the hospital - Students are very happy
Cons: - Expensive - Teaching facilities are old
The Bottom Line: The school really fits my interest and goal. I definitely see myself coming here if I get accepted! PLEASE GW!
WOOT! They don't interview many OOS so I am happy with the II ^.^
Interview was very short compared to others so I have no clue if that was good or not. However, my interviewer and I were smiling the whole way talking about random stuff.
Pros: - Mentor for all 4 years - Affiliated with most of the top hospitals in Michigan - Have lots of abroad and clinical opportunities - Barbara Ann Karmanos Comprehensive Cancer Center - New medical center
Cons: - The area is def not as bad as people say it is, but it's not the greatest. - Some stuff the students said about the school sound a bit depressing.
The Bottom Line: Wayne State def exceeded my expectation. This is a great school for anyone to receive a medical education.
Update #1: Alternate Listed. A bit surprising since my interviewer told me afterward that she was very impressed by my interview. I guess the committee didn't think the same way.
Update #2: Accepted! Totally unexpected. I thought I wouldn't hear back from Wayne State till next spring.
So happy but the short notice makes me re-plan my whole trip. "Cheapest Secondary Fee Award" goes to Cincinnati, $25 only.
My first MMI experience was interesting. In my honest opinion, I am not a huge fan of MMI. The format is supposed to be more fair, but I feel like there is still a lot of bias. For instance, one group had the acting scenario while the other had a rest station. I thought the acting scenario was the hardest.
Pros: - Many clinical/abroad opportunities - Facilities are new - Friendly and informative staff - One of the best children's hospital in the country - Tons of study areas - Can apply for IS status after first year
Cons: - Ranking system - Students seemed tense
The Bottom Line: Great school with amazing staff and awesome facilities. However, I am not sure if I would be happy in a school that seems more competitive than cooperative.
Update: ACCEPTED! HOLY CRAP! Total shocker. I thought I did not do that well in the MMI, but guess not? Feeling very grateful and lucky :]
Excited to visit Florida! I only applied to the SELECT program. \"Longest Secondary Award\" goes to USF!
The SELECT program is amazing! The school is patient-centered and student-centered. The school facilities are new and high-tech. The staff is very nice and informative.
Pros: - Two personal mentors - 2 years in FL and 2 years in PA - Cheaper cost of living - Early clinical exposure - Awesome stimulation centers in CACL and CAMLS - Summer immersion & 4th year capstone - Staff is very engaging - Moffitt Comprehensive Cancer Center - Student seems enthusiastic and happy
Cons: - Not as highly regarded so a little bit worried about matching. - SELECT is still a fairly new program (but it still seems AMAZING!)
The Bottom Line: I am sold! This school has jumped to the top of my list after the interview day.
Update: ACCEPTED! I missed the call yesterday, and was freaking out for the past 24 hours. Finally! I AM GOING TO BE A MD CANDIDATE! I just kept saying thank you thank you on the phone.
