Summary of Application Experience
Non-trad all the way. I had a bit of a shaky undergrad, took some time off and faced what I will call a unique life experience. I am positive that what I gained from that experience is what ultimately led to my med school acceptance. I shadowed, volunteered at the hospital, volunteered at a free clinic and have been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I also held a position at a research company for two years.
I chose to go the process entirely on my own. I did not consult with advisers or anybody else, because I wanted my personal statement, experiences and secondaries to come through as raw and straight from the heart. When I submitted my application, I was essentially sending my heart along with it. I think it is very important to not hold back in discussing life experiences. Don\'t worry about what the committee wants to see, but instead focus on transferring all of your passionate energy onto the pages of your application.
If your heart is in this 120%, you will eventually get in. God does not give us passionate hearts for medicine and then hang us out to dry. If you want this more than anything, and you truly truly mean that, then it will happen. Good luck everybody!
