Brief Profile:
The summer before my sr. year in college I worked as an Operating Room Intern at York Hospital in York, PA. For 6-weeks I scrubbed in, held retractors, and passed instruments during surgery. I played 1 year of NCAA Division I soccer and 2 years of Collegiate Club Ultimate Frisbee. I conducted undergraduate research utilizing DNA fingerprinting to understand the mating habits of a specific lizard species in North Carolina. I presented my research at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research in Salt Lake City, Utah in March 2003. I received a graduate degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in the Summer of 2004 (Master of Arts in Medical Science). My masters thesis was titled, Analysis of the Neurological and Neuropsychological Effects of Soccer Heading.

Summary of Application Experience
I applied previously to the entering class for Fall 2003. I applied to 6 schools with all rejections before interviews. After completing my Masters work in Boston I gained the experience of being a medical school student. This experience impressed admissions committees during interviews. It is important to apply early and to keep in constant contact with the schools to ensure your application is being processed correctly. I had a school lose my application and application fee, which I would not have known without following up on my applications. My pre-medical advisors were supportive, but not highly optimistic at my chances. I now have a Masters degree and am in medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Although my MCATs weren't fantastic and my GPA wasn't off the charts, I'm doing well in classes and have been scoring above average on all examinations. If you have the determination and drive, go for it, b/c it is certainly with in. Once you're in, medical school is what you make of it.
