Summary of Experience:
Nothing against UCLA or this program but I just realized how much I hate LA. Sorry :/ .
Summary of Experience:
I have wanted to go to Creighton for about 4 years now. I was, and still am, ecstatic about this acceptance. Choosing between Creighton and Loyola is proving to be a difficult choice between my first love (Creighton) and a place I believe to be a better fit (Loyola).
CONS: Omaha itself is not a CON. I have been living in a big city for 4 years now and life in Omaha would definitely be tolerable. On the other hand, the winters are definitely a CON. Froze my ass off at the beginning of November. I hate to say it but Creighton\\\'s facilities were not the greatest. They were not near as bad as Albany\\\'s but not even close to UCI\\\'s, Loyola\\\'s and Carver\\\'s. The hospital was decent but Omaha is the smallest city in the country with two medical schools so I have some concerns about Creighton sharing patient traffic and Trauma 1 status with the University of Nebraska.
PROS: This school has heart. The student\\\'s collaborative attitude and non-competitive vibe is easily seen in how they study and interact together. Creighton\\\'s systems-based curriculum is also a plus. The school\\\'s Step 1 scores are going from average and approaching excellent. This tangibly apparent when looking at Creighton\\\'s match lists over the past 5 years. I mean they had like 14ish people match in Ortho last year?!?!? Creighton also seems to be a feeder school for Mayo\\\'s residencies.
Summary of Experience:
This was my first acceptance so naturally I was STOKED when I got in. However, I was not impressed by the school itself.
CONS: It touts itself on being small and having a small, tight knit community. On my interview day I barely saw students interacting with one another and with a class of 140 the school\'s classes are not even \"small\". From my experience 140 is about average. The facilities were also pretty substandard.
Pros: No school has nothing going for it. The admissions office is extremely helpful and supportive. Since I felt my interview experience was subpar I spent many hours on the phone with students and admins talking about the school. I also feel like the school is turning a corner in terms of service projects and having a hospital responsible for a 120 mile radius connected to the school is a definite plus. I have also heard that the Emergency Medicine residency program at Albany Medical Center is fantastic so if that is your forte then, shoot, Albany might be the place for you!
