Summary of Experience:
Hold for spring consideration: 11/19
Won\'t hear back until May, which is kind of a bummer. Seems like the acceptance rate is low for people put on hold for the spring, but it\'s possible.
This was my first interview so I was extremely nervous and unprepared. My interviewer was really nice though. The interview itself was very conversational and my interviewer really seemed to try to get to know me. Looking back, some of my answers were pretty bad (When asked what I do for fun, I said I watch TV(amongst other things)! DOH!), but overall, I felt that she got a good idea of what kind of person I was.
I didn\'t get a great impression of the school after my interview. Our tour guides were friendly, but not too enthusiastic. I\'ve heard that Downstate students get great clinical experience though, and getting IS tuition rates after one year is a huge plus.
The location isn\'t as bad as people make it seem (in my opinion) and I love NYC! It\'d be great to hear some good news in May, but besides the difference in tuition, I\'m actually not sure I would choose Downstate over NYMC.
Summary of Experience:
UL: 1/4 || Fall grades: 1/4
Was pleasantly surprised by both the city and the school. Seeing as it\'s pretty late in the season, I wouldn\'t be surprised if I was interviewing for a waitlist spot. I would definitely consider coming here if accepted though.
The tour was pretty thorough and the facilities were nice. The one thing I didn\'t like about the interview day was our inability to choose an interview time, or even a time frame. Some people had interviews as early as 8AM while others as late as 3:30PM. The tour and lunch were between 11-1PM so before or after that, you\'re basically on your own.
My interview was at 2:30PM so I just kinda sat around until it was time to head over.
I interviewed with a Neonatologist at the children\'s hospital. Interview went fairly smoothly, but I can never really tell if I actually did well or not.
Summary of Experience:
3/29: Moved up one spot. Now #2 on the OOS waitlist
3/9: Received the waitlist letter today (SO glad it wasn\'t a rejection letter). Currently number 3 on the OOS waitlist, so really crossing my fingers that there\'s some waitlist movement soon!
Final pooled: 1/20
After interviewing here, I can say that Iowa is my top choice (of the schools I\'ve interviewed at). I was completely blown away by what the school has to offer. The faculty and staff are extremely attentive and responsive to the students\' needs and the students genuinely seemed happy.
The facilities are great as well as the learning communities. The school is connected to the hospital so during the winter months, walking outside is almost completely avoidable.
The school itself has an excellent reputation and lots going on. There are many research opportunities and I like the idea of the distinction tracks.
We were told that most students receive some sort of scholarship/grant money from the school, but for OOS students it\'s still kind of expensive (but then again, it\'s like that at most schools for OOS)
I didn\'t get a chance to check out Iowa City, but it seems like a nice little town. The location is probably the biggest downside for me, but I\'ll get over it if I\'m accepted =)
There are 42 OOS spots, but we were told that OOS students have a 40% chance of being accepted.
Summary of Experience:
3/9: Decided to withdraw from the waitlist. I\'m gonna hold out for Iowa, SUNY Downstate, and SLU. Even though the school is pretty awesome, I didn\'t like Philadelphia enough (nor do I wanna pay that much) to choose it over the other schools. _____
Received the waitlist letter in the mail =(
I was really excited about Temple after my interview day, but in hindsight, my faculty interview didn\'t go that well. My interviewer was 30 minutes late, which left me more and more anxious as I waited. I could have articulated my answers better and I definitely should have prepared more when it comes to health care issues. The interview was abruptly ended after 20 minutes and I didn\'t even get the chance to ask questions. The student interview went a lot better. Although it was only 20 minutes as well, the student was really nice and I got my questions answered.
The school itself was very nice. The students seemed really happy and the facilities are amazing. The location is just okay and I personally didn\'t get that great of an impression of Philly (but that\'s not a big deal). Tuition is the biggest downside to Temple, and maybe the location as well. I thought NYMC was expensive, but OOS tuition for Temple is even more. IS tuition is only $10K cheaper which isn\'t that big of a difference compared to Downstate\'s IS tuition, which is half of OOS.
Hopefully the waitlist will show some movement and I\'ll hear some good news.
Summary of Experience:
My first acceptance! I am so relieved =))))
My interview day was pleasant and my interviewer was really nice. The interview was very straight forward but not very conversational. I basically regurgitated my application, but it was quick and painless.
I really liked the location of the school. Even though I wanted to live in the city, it\'s probably better for me if I didn\'t so I can focus on school. The campus and facilities are nice and NYC is just a 30 minute train ride away.
Overall, I got a good impression of the school and would be happy attending in the fall. Plus, my boyfriend will have a guaranteed job in NYC, so that makes things a bit easier for us.
