Program in Medical Spanish – Centro Panamericano de Idiomas (C.P.I. – Costa Rica) (Summer 2010) 1. 96 classroom hours 2. 20 clinical hours 3. ~850 hours of complete emersion Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) Athletic Coordinator (Currently Serving): Responsible for organizing and coaching the different CCM intramural sports teams at William and Mary. William and Mary Tutor: Varsity Athletic Department (Spring 2009 - Present): Work with varsity athletes as a tutor in biology, chemistry and mathematics. Paid position.
Brazos Valley Pre-Natal Clinic (Summer 2009): Worked as a volunteer at this pre-natal clinic for uninsured and low-income expectant mothers in the Bryan/College Station area of Texas, many of whom are Spanish-speaking only. Responsibilities included checking in patients, checking vitals and lab work. Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX): EMT-B Program (Summer 2009): A 5-week accelerated program resulting in CPR/First Aid Certification for Health Care Providers and EMT-B course completion. Required 120 class hours, 72 ambulance hours and clinical hours in the Emergency Room, Labor and Delivery, Intensive Care Unit and Behavioral Care Unit. Included on-the-job education with doctors, nurses, medical technicians and paramedics as well as participating in rounds with physicians. Personal future plans include working this summer as an EMT and medical technician in a Brazos Valley clinic as well as volunteering with the Williamsburg Fire Department next semester. Rawls Byrd Elementary School Mentor (Spring 2009): Volunteered as a teacher’s aide at a local elementary school assisting children with cognitive developmental disabilities. Exxon Mobil Health, Safety and Environment Intern (Summer 2008): Developed and led a project to identify occupational health hazards for welders and unexplainable deaths among welders. Published and presented findings to Exxon Mobil Project Management Team (PMT) in Ras Laffan, Qatar. Research in Neuroscience (Fall 2009): Research focusing on the neurological pathways involved in thermoregulation. Current project: The Effects of Leptin on Thermosensitive Neurons in the PO/AH. Working with Dr. John D. Griffin at The College of William and Mary. Research in Biology (Spring 2008 through Spring 2009): Research in evolutionary biology and animal behavior with Dr. George Gilchrist at The College of William and Mary (currently director at the NSF).
