Summary of Application Experience
START YOUR APPLICATION PROCESS EARLY!!!!!!! You hear this a thousand times but you don\'t want to be waiting in December for one last LOR (Letter of Recommendation) like I did. I highly recommend waiting a year to apply the next cycle if you have any doubt.
Have all of your LORs done now. Submit your completed AMCAS/AACOMAS (personal statement, LORs, MCAT and transcript) by July THE LATEST.
Plan on spending a ton of money. Keep costs down by only applying to the schools you truly have a shot at getting into and most importantly see yourself spending the next 4 years there!
MCAT: $2000 (Month off of work+ 250 for the test + 300 for self study books) AACOMAS: $800 AAMCAS: $300 7 Interviews: $3000
Please ask if you have questions!

DId not complete secondary. Required to sign a contract to practice in Ohio after graduation.
Summary of Experience:
Interviewed Jan 31. Format: 2 PhDs with only my resume. Did not go well- a lot of talk about my lab job, which is boring. They did not seem impressed.
Campus: Amazing. Brand new anatomy lab finishing up construction, cool old buildings. Rich suburb of Chicago.
Verdict: Loved it. Well established school with strong connections in the Chicago land area. Close to home.
Summary of Experience:
Format: 2 D.O.\'s. Low key basic questions until I got grilled on why RVU and not the other schools I applied to. My response was terrible and I did not feel great that day. Also a lot about the manipulation I observed from a DO surgeon, eg how does this differ from how an MD would practice.
Campus: Brand new facilities-very modern. Beautiful area. Parker is a very new development. Rich suburb about an hour from the mountains
Verdict: I would love to attend RVU: Colorado is amazing, fairly close to home. However the provisional accreditation and for-profit status is unnerving; how does the medical community feel about gradates, trouble matching into residency, other stigma. No Federal loans. I would most likely shoot for military scholarship and hopefully match into a good residency thru the Army. There is a military medicine track at RVU and many students are HPSP. The Dean and the rest of the faculty I talked with all seemed very serious about your education and are working very hard for accreditation.
Summary of Experience:
Interview 12/10 Format: PhD and D.O. Fairly relaxed until questions about why PBL? Be prepared to answer why you are interested in PBL. I felt like I did OK.
Campus: 75F in December and palm trees. Area is on a recently developed community- rich rural-ish suburb feel. Brand new facilities.
Verdict: I loved the PBL demo. Low tuition. Very far from home.
Summary of Experience:
Format: PhD, DO and OMS-III. Relaxed and fairly easy. Why DO? Why DMU?...I felt like I did well.
Campus: Amazing. Cool buildings and lecture halls. Neat simulation and OMM labs. Des Moines is a great city in the middle of no where.
Verdict: I was very excited for this school. The second oldest osteopathic college and very close to home. Well established in the area and the former dean is now the governor of Iowa. Faculty and Dean were very nice. Waitlisted but I will try my best to change their mind haha!
Summary of Experience:
Interviewed 12/17 Format: Group (5 others) with Director of Student Affairs and D.O. I liked being able to think of a response as others answered.
Campus: Quiet tourist town (Dreary-Erie). Facilities seem outdated. Brand new Wellness facility-very nice.
Verdict: First acceptance-PBL! Paid my seat deposit and plan on making a hard decision based on my other interviews. I would rather stick closer to home and Erie seems very boring. I\'ve had trouble getting in contact with admissions staff--very slow and sometimes no response.
Summary of Experience:
Format: Two DOs. The most relaxed interview yet. We talked sports and my views on ongoing government reform.
Campus: Awesome old style buildings. A new library and fitness center finishing up construction. The neighborhood is rough--almost surprising to find a medical school. However, security was everywhere and the main apartment complex was right across the street.
Verdict: Kansas City is a great city and fairly close to home. Everything seemed great. I enjoyed how they stressed research--different from most of my other DO interviews.
