Summary of Application Experience
Update: I am now a 1st year medical student at Johns Hopkins. I love my school, and I am very happy about my choice =) PM me if you have any questions. I\'ll be glad to help.
Summary of Experience:
Not surprised, since I had a really bad student interview. My interviewer talked about his own achievements (not even about the school) for almost the whole interview. He made no effort to let me express myself. Then he said it was his first time doing interviews, and he asked me how he did as an interviewer. I said, \"This is a little different. Other interviewers usually ask me questions.\" He got offended and started to defend himself. Whoops... For future applicants, I later heard that if you get a bad interview like this one where you really don\'t feel that you got the chance to express yourself, you may petition for another interview during your interview day. Interview impressions: Liked the dean, the great music program, the cool acoustics of the library, and the beautiful campus. The Yale System seems to work well (although students from other medical schools have stated otherwise, but I guess this depends on personal preference). I did get the snobby sense from some of the students though.
Summary of Experience:
WHOO! EXTREMELY HAPPY to get in! This is a top choice amongst my acceptances. Interview impressions: Awesome place with awesome people! I had a blast here. The people were fun, Center City looked like a place that I would enjoy living in, and community/interdisciplinary opportunities abound.
Summary of Experience:
YAYY! So happy to be accepted here. This is a top choice school =) Interview impressions: This school may just be my new favorite. All the negative myths that I heard about the place were dispelled by my interview trip. The medical building is gorgeous, the people are diverse and nice, the faculty are not only distinguished but also supportive, the programs and curriculum here are great. Only con: Baltimore is not the ideal place to live in, although a good place for carrying out work with the underserved. I only hope that my late interview date (2/18) would not impede my chances of getting in.
Summary of Experience:
Amazing school! Absolutely loved everything about it: the community/public health opportunities, the location, extracurricular/artistic activities, international programs, the students, the faculty! Everything and everyone there pleasantly surprised me. I felt right at home here. Only possible con: cost, but this will vary for each individual.
Summary of Experience:
Awarded with $15,000 per year for 4 years (as were all accepted students). SUPER psyched to get Marcy\'s acceptance call the morning of 10/18/10. This school was one of my top choices pre-interview, and it is still a top choice amongst my acceptances. I love Mayo <3
Summary of Experience:
Awarded with a merit scholarship of $25,000 per year for 4 years. Wow the interview really impressed me! The students were great, the admissions office was so responsive and welcoming (they even provided student hosts with gift cards to take us out to dinner the night before the interview), the day was organized and computerized, and the dean was amazing. Ann Arbor is a beautiful and safe little college town. Flex time exams are a huge plus as well.
Summary of Experience:
Chicago is great! This is a great school with a strong focus on PBL. Love the 4-year MD/MPH program, the myriad of opportunities, and the location. This is a very expensive school though. I may have liked it even more if I weren\'t so distracted with my acceptance from Mayo (which came during my Northwestern interview day).
Summary of Experience:
Facilities are brand new and very high-tech. However, I did not feel safe walking around just a few blocks from the school. The trip left me exhausted and unhappy. The good medical building just couldn\'t weigh against the bad experiences that I accumulated in my short 1.5 days there.
Summary of Experience:
Liked the area and the new curriculum, but the students weren\'t very diverse. One of my faculty interviewers (a PhD) said straight out that he did not like having medical students working with him on research projects due to their lack of time. It seems that education come second to faculty\'s research. I did not get a supportive vibe here.
Summary of Experience:
Love the location (so close to home!). The students seemed very chill, although they weren\'t very enthusiastic as they talked about the school. All of the faculty that I met at the medical center impressed me with their enthusiasm and love for their jobs. The iPad initiative is a big plus, although they\'re not sure if this initiative would be kept next year. One big con is first years\' Monday testing schedule (there goes all of my weekends).
Summary of Experience:
My favorite UC! The interview left me with good impressions. The people were cool and fun, and they were able to address every single concern that I raised.
Summary of Experience:
Somewhat disappointed with my experience at this school. I didn\'t get a good vibe from the students or the faculty. Curriculum/lab are very traditional. My day ended with a random WashU faculty member (who offered me directions since I looked a little lost) telling me, \"Washington University is pre-historic.\" I guess this school is great for research and not so much for my other goals.
Summary of Experience:
The interview impressed me and moved the school up my mental list a bit. The dean did a great job of meeting every student and selling the school. The buildings were nice, and the 7 student-run clinics were a huge plus. Davis seemed like a good place for clinical training, but not so much for research.
