Good and lots of medical and non-medical ECs, SMDEP at Duke University SOM, research experience for 1 summer, good LORs
Hoping for Texas schools but I am OOS (Florida) so applying early to try to get ahead of the game
Low MCAT - bad timing, took it on last day of classes and had 4 other finals the same week but chose not to retake because it\'s decent and I\'m hoping my GPA will pull me up from the MCAT plus MCAT is expensive! :(
Expenses (so far): AMCAS Primaries $482 TMDSAS Primaries $170 (had to pay OOS rate) Interview Attire $250 Secondaries: -Texas A&M $50 -FIU $30 -Baylor $100 -UCF $30 -Duke $85 -Meharry $65 -Flight for Interviews at UNTHSC and UTHSCSA $460 -Taxi to DFW Airport from UNTHSC $60 -Preparing Flight Arrangements to UCF/FIU/Duke (thank goodness I can drive to UTMB, wallet definitely needs a break) $? Total (so far): $1782 (so glad I have parents who can help me and a great paying summer job with the Air Force and great scholarship/grant at Rice after seeing this total :O)
Total so far = TOO MUCH! (Lost track/don\'t wanna know anymore) I know it will pay off in the long run when hopefully one of my paychecks is just as much as I spent on this application cycle...I hope.
Summary of Experience:
One of my top choices in TX but not really known for looking past the stats in the preliminary stage which may hinder me with my MCAT but hoping for the best
Summary of Experience:
Applied here because I was asked to through Med-MAR after the MCAT, and they offered to waive my application fees, so why not especially since it\'s a great school.
Summary of Experience:
Was looking forward to visiting this school but unfortunately they came to me a little too late in the cycle as I was already spent out on traveling to interviews and had some acceptances but hopefully my interview spot went to someone who really wanted it :)
Summary of Experience:
Really interested in Duke after completing a summer program here while applying; kind of a reach school with my MCAT but hoping for the best as SMDEP tends to be a feeder into their medical school if you did well
Summary of Experience:
Excited about visiting Lake Nona down in Orlando and seeing all the new medical city will have to offer. If I stay in Florida, this would probably be one of my top choices.
Really loved this school. Sad to get the call that I\'m in the lower third of the waitlist today as I thought the interviews here went well, and I truly enjoyed my experience there. Oh well, I\'m still hoping to have plenty of choices. Still very early in the season.

Summary of Experience:
Interviews here were great! Very friendly and inviting atmosphere. Ihad an M.D. and a 4th yr med student. Both interviewers thought I would be a \\\"good fit\\\" for their school and the Dean talked to me about events that I would be invited to for \\\"accepted people\\\" already as well as a scholarship that I would at least get so that I could pay in-state tuition. Guess I made a good impression. Not too sure about how I feel about this school. I have other choices more at the top of my list, but I definitely wouldn\\\'t mind going here for medical school either.Can\\\'t wait to hear back on Oct. 15th.
Summary of Experience:
Interview here was awesome! I had a great experience here with the nicest people and best interviewers and med students. The med students really loved their school, and it showed. I was surprised at how much I did love the school and the whole D.O. philosophy since I was treating this school as more of a safety as it is the only D.O. school I applied to. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and the interviewers. I had an D.O. and a Ph.D. who were both heavy hitters meaning world-renowned. However, it didn\\\'t necessarily show, and the interviews were really laid back, and they concentrated on selling their school to me not only it being the other way around. The Ph.D. interviewer asked me how they could steal me from the other TX schools and he hopes to see me there next fall, so I guess I did a good job in that interview. WIth this being my first interview experience, I was surprised at how well it went and how not nervous I was which I think paid off because there was no reason to be nervous at UNTHSC. Will definitely be seriously considering this school and hope to hear back positive news on Oct. 15th.
ACCEPTED HERE ON MY BIRTHDAY! Great news to make my day even better! But now unsure about going to a DO school as it is the only one I applied to.
Summary of Experience:
SO excited to get accepted here! Was definitely one of my top choices after the interview here. Love the half-day classes, focus on global health, and high board scores. And the fact that rotations can be done in Houston or Austin for 3rd and 4th year. Wasn\'t so sure after my interviews here if I was going to get in but so excited I did!
Decided to narrow down all my choices in TX to UTMB! It was the one school where I could really see myself and could not find anything I absolutely didn\'t like about the school. Went back for a second look and fell in love all over again plus a guaranteed scholarship that will allow me to pay in state tuition!
Summary of Experience:
No secondary here. Super excited about this school. It is definitely my top choice in Texas and hoping some of my networking at this school pays off and gets me some interview love!
FINALLY an interview here! Was beginning to lose hope, but I was able to call in some connections. Hopefully, all my previous interviews have prepared me well for this one! So excited!
YES! Accepted! Way earlier than I expected! Now I really have to make a decision...It\'s going to be a hard choice that\'s for sure.
Summary of Experience:
Excited about the new Florida medical schools so we\'ll see what happens.
Yay! got an interview invite here! TIme for a small vacation to Miami!
Finally heard back from this school after waiting exactly 4 weeks from my Admissions Committee Review Completed status. I\'ve been \"accepted\" but placed on the alternate list because 80 spots are already being held in the class. However, high chance with being on this list that I\'ll officially get in. Looking forward to seeing what happens with this!
Summary of Experience:
Found out I was ACCEPTED by accident! School hasn\'t called yet, but my interviewer emailed me to say congrats. THanks for letting me know before the school did! Suspense was killing me! Definitely probably going back here for Second Look before I make a decision :)
Summary of Experience:
Pleasantly surprised by the interview experience here and excited about being accepted! Loved the curriculum, people, and facilities! This just made my decision even harder!
