PROS: The campus is located in the northern area of Philadelphia in a rural part of town. The facility looks fairly new and was excited to see the patient simulation room. The interviewees were gathered around a large table and I had a great time talking to many of them. Drexel has two curriculum tracks, the IFM traditional lecture and the PIL team based learning track. I am interested in the small group learning and I believe Drexel is the only university that has this option is open to students. Drexel has a strong establishment in cancer research which I am interested in, specifically my interviewer’s research.
CONS: Hahnemann University Hospital is a 20 minute shuttle ride from the university. I had to miss the tour because my interview was off campus. Drexel does not have on campus housing so incoming students will have to look for houses on their own. The cafeteria food was very limited.
I enjoyed Philadelphia. They recently renovated the city so it is much cleaner. The downtown area is very pedestrian friendly and one can walk anywhere in that area to get to where they want to go. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed the Philadelphia buildings/scenery.

PROS: New York Medical College is surrounded by trees and is a 30 minute train ride outside of Manhattan. I think it is the perfect location to study peacefully without being distracted by the inner city life. The facilities are gorgeous, especially the Children’s Hospital on campus as well as the anatomy lab. NYMC has two hospitals on campus, short walking distance from the dorms which students can live in throughout medical school. There is a class for students wanting to learn Spanish to treat Spanish speaking patients. Many of the students I met the time I was there were very happy and especially the 4th year MS. Many research opportunities due to Touro College buying out NYMC and many Jewish holidays off!
CONS: The campus is away from the city so a quick getaway (less than 30mins) is not feasible.
I think NYMC is in the perfect location for medical students to study and close enough to enjoy Manhattan. I had a warm feeling from the admissions and medical students. I like that they have the main county hospital on campus as well as dorms for those who would like to live close by for all 4 years.
