Brief Profile:
University Medical Center- Volunteered at the ICU and the Pediatrics Activity Center for a year, took a semester long break while I was doing a separate clinical internship, then continued one more semester only in Child Life (the PAC). About 4 hours a week average. Didn\\\'t include in application but total hours was about 80.
Clinical internship- Twice a week, I would don scrubs and perform rotations at the local medical center (different from UMC). I shadowed mainly in the following departments: the cardiac catheterization (\\\'cath\\\') lab, pediatrics, the post-surgical unit, and mother/baby. 6 hours a week for one semester. I guess that\\\'s around 60 hrs total.
Summer Research Internship - Worked as a member of the Integrated Cancer Genomics Division on a project dealing with breast cancer. Dedicated over 320 hours (40 hours per week for 2 months). Presented findings at the annual symposium on a poster, and was one of ten, in a pool of over fifty interns, selected to give an oral presentation. Furthermore, was awarded as one of the three \\\'best speakers.\\\'
Hospital in Africa - Duration of approximately two weeks. Followed a group of \\\'house officers\\\' (resident physicians) as they performed their rounds. Divided time between inpatient wards, emergency room, and outpatient clinic. Post-primary, I recently went back and put in another week.
Some Shadowing - Over the last two years, I\\\'ve basically shadowed around five doctors, all of different specialties, each for one day (one of which I shadowed for two days).
Weekend School Volunteer Teacher - Since senior year of high school, but one-year break after I switched to college setting. About 2 hours a week average. Total (not incl. in app.) around 200 hours.
Some community service, and other stuff.
I told them I like to exercise too, haha

Summary of Application Experience
6/13 - Submitted my primary, only to my state school: UofA
...Went on vacation, came back a few days ago...
7/14 - Right now I added a list of schools that I am thinking of sending my primaries to. I could really use some feedback on which schools to remove/add! I want to apply to around 20 schools, and I\'m trying to submit my primaries within the week.
7/28 - Two weeks later... my list of schools to apply to is still not final. Yeah, I gotta hit that MSAR up soon. Meanwhile, I\'m filling out secondaries.
Post-application season: I shouldn\'t have applied to so many schools. As you can see, I only completed secondaries for about half of the applications that I started. It\'s funny how I knew very well from the beginning the importance of applying early, and I submitted my primary relatively early but.. I went on vacation.. then it took me additional weeks to finalize my list of schools to apply to... then I definitely dragged when it came to the secondaries (some have stayed in my inbox >1 month. I dunno what happened, I must of lost some steam as the process went on, and of course classes and my other commitments took much of my time away.
I didn\'t really withdraw from the schools that I was waitlisted at, except in the case where they really pushed for a response from me, even though I would\'ve preferred UofA over all of those schools, save Baylor. I wanted to see if I could get anymore acceptances... but nope, just two (UofA and VCU).
Summary of Experience:
I got rejected from Tucson w/o waitlist. Very unexpected! They said something along the lines of me not having enough doctor/patient interaction.
Summary of Experience:
Got accepted at VCU. Already accepted at UofA at this point so I promptly declined... feels good to get more than one acceptance. This was the second of two acceptances. VCU is great, like a lot of other schools, but it\'s the tuition man!
