Summary of Application Experience
Philosophy for 2010-2011 Admissions cycle: All it takes is one!
Advice: * Turn in your application as early as possible. I turned my application in early July, and didn\'t get verified till August. Looking at so many SDNers getting interviews so early in the season, I truly wish I had been able to submit my primary earlier. In this case, early bird really does get the worm! * Answer the following two questions even before secondaries start pouring in as they will show up in your secondaries in some way, shape, or manner: 1. How will you add to the diversity of the class, including but not limited to lifestyle, race/ethnicity, geography, socioeconomic status, family background, professional pursuits, interests in different medical specialties, interest in working with undeserved populations, and distance traveled through life. 2. Why do you want to attend X Medical School? Make sure the reasons are unique and fleshed out. Always talk about the school in context of your values, experiences, and goals. * Goal to turnover secondaries should be two weeks, and by mid-August since that\'s when most interview invites start going out. * Don\'t discount any schools. Every medical school has something unique to offer! * If you are claiming residency, have the following information prepared beforehand: 1040 for you and your parents, vehicle registration, voter registration, and and driver\'s license information; it will make your life a lot easier! * Have two character letters (friend, supervisor, academic peer, church group leader, etc.) uploaded onto AMCAS in addition to your committee letter so you won\'t be blindsided when you are asked for them by some schools. * It is your responsibility to call or e-mail medical schools to ensure your application is complete. Turning in the secondary does not equal completion of application, so make sure you are keeping up with your application status.
Method to the madness: SR: Secondary Received SC: Secondary Submitted C: Complete II: Interview Invite I: Interview R: Rejected A: Accepted WD: Withdrew WL: Waitlisted
Summary of Experience:
SR: 7/14/2010; SC: 8/9/2010 (Wanted to make sure everything was perfect; hopefully, they don\'t mind the time lag); C: 8/17/2010; got re-review status, so not too hopeful about this school.
Summary of Experience:
SR: 8/5/2010; SC: 8/12/2010; Okay, I made a grievous error--three of the boxes have the wrong responses--in my copy pasting error, I wasn\'t looking carefully at what I was submitting. Admissions representative was very sweet, and said to e-mail her the correct info, but I wouldn\'t be surprised if I get rejected outright. That shows a lot of carelessness on my part. Lesson learned--do not submit application at midnight ever again!!!!! And never submit without looking at the question and answer!!! Here\'s for praying!
Summary of Experience:
North Shore-LIJ Health System is amazing and I would be honored to be part of their first class. SR: 8/6/2010; SC: 8/29/2010; C: 8/30/2010
Summary of Experience:
SR: 8/6/2010. Not too happy about the $50 secondary fee not being waived, even with an AMCAS fee waiver. SC: 8/30/2010; Rejected: 11/11/2010
Summary of Experience:
Sweet! SR: 8/11/2010; SC: 9/2/2010; This may sound a bit idiotic, but I am super excited about their vegetarian-only cuisine on campus! Also, love their unique curriculum! C: 9/21/2010
Summary of Experience:
Dream school! So excited about SR: 8/9/2010; SC: 9/5/2010 Finally! Secondary made me cries tears of blood, but hopefully these details will make them want to interview me :)
Summary of Experience:
SR: 9/7/2010; SC: 9/7/2010 (I am super frustrated with them for sending out their secondary in batches and having some sort of computer glitch- I have been in their system since 8/13 but didn\'t get the seocndary till 9/7! Grrr...better late than never I suppose);
Summary of Experience:
SR: 8/11/2010 (secondary was sent to my parent\'s e-mail address, so didn\'t even know it was there till 9/9..Grrrr); SC: 9/9/2010; rejection via snail mail: 11/11/2010
