Brief Profile:
held exec board positions in 3 campus organizations for several years shadowed general surgeons (50hrs) shadowed OB/GYNs (25hrs) shadowed a cardiovascular surgeon (1 day) hospital volunteer (300+ hrs) SMDEP (6wk summer program) parasitology research (1yr) ACT tutor (2yrs)
1yr of postbac work: good amount of upper level bio courses with a strong GPA - a sure booster in my application (anatomy, physiology, cell bio, immunology, genetics, biochem, micro, a bunch of labs + medical terminology & a course in culture and healthcare)
Currently in a master\'s program for biology full time - not listed on AMCAS app because I started in Fall \'09. I had to mention it in secondaries and/or send an unofficial transcript to schools over winter break after receiving my first grades (= 4.0)

Summary of Application Experience
GPA is not very strong, but I\'m giving it a try anyway. I\'ll fill in all the blanks after I get accepted somewhere, lol
application sent 7/5/09 ...a transcript held up the process. Verified in mid-August.
overall experience thus far: pretty stressful
-Rejections rolling in. Very discouraging. My thoughts: why the hell did I apply this cycle?
-Interview invite to University of Cincinnati! --Did I really just get my first interview to a school at the top of my list?! wow!
-More interview invites. Too bad that doesn\'t stop the rejections...
-Attended Cincinnati interview & LOVED everything about the school. Yes! I feel like this is MY school. (My thoughts: Crap! I just fell in love with a school and I can still get rejected. This sucks. Anxiously awaiting a decision...2wks they say)
-OMG!!! One week later....ACCEPTED! Thank you God! I owe this all to Him! I\'m gonna be a doctor!!!! :-D (Christmas came early this year!)
-Definitely don\'t wanna waste time & money going to interviews at schools that I won\'t choose over Cincinnati. Considering my rejections & whatnot, all I really want to hear from is Rochester.
-Winter break: sleeping easy, searching for scholarship money...
Overall feelings so far: This process SUCKS! I feel terrible for anyone still waiting for that first acceptance. I feel so blessed to have found out relatively early.
Tips: -Apply EARLY! -Talk to people from the ADCOM before applying to get a feel for your chances & try to stand out so that your name is somewhat familiar to them when you start bugging them about your application statuses & whatnot, lol. -Do several mock interviews, preferably ones where you get a recording of yourself so you can change any nervous habits you may have. -Warn professors, advisors, and research PIs really early that you\'re going to be asking for a letter of recommendation -If your school has a committee letter, which mine did not, be sure that the committee is going to write a favorable letter on your behalf. I\'ve heard rumors that sometimes the committee can recommend you with reservations & that can\'t be good... -Make sure that there are no errors on your transcript(s) EARLY! I took 2 summer classes at a different school & when I sent my transcript for those classes to AMCAS, I had no idea that for some reason, one of my grades was erased from the transcript. This was really annoying and after verification, any new transcripts have to be sent directly to each medical school. -Unless you\'re loaded, which I am not...get a job & save up a few thousand for applications and interviews -Have faith & if you don\'t have any, you better find some quick if you wanna make it through! lol -(more tips to come!)
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!
