Summary of Application Experience
SUNY Stony Brook: first interview, pretty nervous but really liked the school. State of the art facilities, really laid back students. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere though. Would also need to get a car, so added expense. interviewed with a phd and a 2nd year student. the student interview was much much more formal and difficult.
SUNY Downstate: totally different than Stony Brook. sounds like Downstate offers awesome clinical experience. not a great neighborhood but have some friends that went here and lived in cooler/safer parts of brooklyn. seemed like the students here were a bit more competitive but everyone was still pretty nice. really liked it here, would be happy to attend.
NYU: really loved NYU. location is unbeatable. you can really see the differences in resources between the state and top private schools. my interview was so unbelievably short, i left feeling like i wasnt even asked any questions. interviewer was very positive and nice though.
Mount Sinai: sinai was awesome. i really liked how the students filtered in and out. everyone was really laid back and in love with the school. the two interview format was a little intense, i didnt really feel like i nailed the interview but they went pretty well.
Columbia: fantastic school, really loved it. similar to sinai with the random students dropping in. i really dont feel like i rocked the interview, kind of wish i could do it over.
Waitlisted at Sinai (11/11): really disappointed. loved the school, and i wasnt really prepared for any kind of decision. will do my darndest to get off this one.
Waitlisted at Stony Brook (11/17): another disappointment, but saw it coming after not hearing for so long.
AECOM: Einstein really exceeded my expectations. Took the express bus from manhattan, it was way easier and closer than i expected. everyone at einstein seemed so excited and proud to be there. my interview was oddly personal, but i think it went okay.
NYMC: another school that exceeded my expectations. first closed file interview, which was interesting. i was pretty nervous for the different format but it ended up being really relaxed and conversational. i also really enjoyed the company of the other applicants, which made the day even better. downside was probably the location, it felt a little college campus. but, maybe thats a good thing.
