    Summary of Application Experience

I'm a TX resident so I want to see how my fate ends up here in my home state to try and cut down on my student loans while still getting a really good medical school education.

8/18/08 tmdsas submitted - decided to wait for mcat scores and see if i needed to send out an aacomas application later on. will wait to try and save money.
9/6/08 mcat retake - followed by 2 week vacation with boyfriend to California!
10/7/08 mcat scores released!!! I got straight 10's and another R on the writing. Wicked! Hopefully I'll start hearing from some of the schools now. Please....anyone???
10/8/08 called TCOM at 9am to update MCAT on file since I know I am complete there. Got a call back at 12:54pm saying I am invited for Interview! CAN'T BELIEVE IT! horray! best 2 days in a row EVER!!
10/10/08 - called Texas Tech, they have updated MCAT score but online still doesn't show my payment has been received. Admissions counselor told me that they received 2,000 pieces of mail in the past week so they're still trying to get through it all but it should be fine. Wait and see...didn't get delivery confirmation or anything on it... hmm... probably was a bad idea.
A&M still says they haven't received my updated MCAT scores, I've heard that it takes about a month to hear anything from them so I'll leave it and not call them.
    10/24/08 - TCOM interview
10/25/08 - I am very impressed with TCOM and I think the interviews went well. I am generally very nervous and unable to communicate well under 'pressure' situations but I think it helped that my interviewers were there to help me and it was relatively very stress-free. I am impressed with all the development that is going on down there and how they are building new classrooms to accommodate the 200-class-size starting 2010. If I am accepted I will most definitely attend!
11/01/2008-11/08/2008 - VACATION TO ENGLAND FOR BIRTHDAY!
11/10/2008- Feeling bummed that I didn't listen to EVERYONE'S advice and get my application in EARLY. i guess all i can hope for now is late interviews. :( I hope I don't have to wait another year. that would be dreadful!
11/11/2008- GOT AN INVITE FOR TECH!! HORRAY!!
11/26/2008 - I was really impressed w/ Tech and especially their 100% step 1 pass rate for the current 3rd yrs. Their school and community have a very friendly feel and reminded me of Waco a bit in that respect. Interviewers were great and one of mine was a 3rd year student which I think shows a lot about how much they respect their students! I definitely think their curriculum change is for the better and would be really glad to be able to call myself a student there.
    12/1/2008- waiting patiently...
    12/8/2008- Accepted!! HORRAY!!!!

    TOTAL FEES:
    2007
    kaplan books last year: $40
    mcat 1st time: $210

=complete waste last year. not prepared at all.

    2008
    EK verbal book: $30
    mcat prep course (TPR): $1899
    mcat 2nd time: $210
    school interfolio fee: $10
    TMDSAS application: $125 (8 schools)
    Tech supplementary fee: $50
    TAMHSC Supp fee: $50
interview gas for TCOM: $40 ($2.75/gal)
interview gas for Tech: $60 ($1.55/gal)
    car rental for Tech: $50
    Hotel for Tech: $50

Acceptance=worth every penny! I felt unprepared for everything, I took the MCAT the last possible week, I applied the last possible day, and I even wore a cheap $20 suit that i bought at Ross to the interviews - and forgot to wear deodorant at one of them (which by the way was the one that accepted me so maybe it was a pity acceptance). But I still KNEW that i wanted to go to medical school and KNEW that I was going to work towards this goal and any obstacles that came in my way were going to have to move. Maybe it was good not being under too much stress during this time, who knows, I think I am headed to the right place for me though and that is all that matters.

    Peace out!
