Summary of Application Experience
This was my second time applying. The first time was riddled with big mistakes-- 1. biggest was my first MCAT at 26M (V:9,P:8,B:9), coupled with my low GPA I should have known I didn't have a chance. 2. applied late-- was complete at most schools around December! 3. Applied only to competitive allopathic schools-- at the time I knew little to nothing about osteopathic medicine. By the next year I felt like a seasoned vet. I knew what to do-- I retook the MCAT, read a lot of books about osteopathic medicine ( I suggest the DO's by Gevitz), shadowed a DO, applied early to schools I knew I wanted to go to and that I had a good chance at. Finally, I decided that if all things were equal and nobody cared about prestige etc. that I genuinely wanted to be an osteopathic physician (mainly because I think learning OMM is cool whether I end up using it or not). Lecom- bradenton was my dream school by the end of this process of self discovery. I am extremely excited about starting there this Fall!
