Summary of Application Experience
It was great having a paramedic background, it gave the interviewers something 'different' than just research to focus on. I primarily went the D.O. route, although it appears all cirriculums are virtually identical, and the schools of thought are very similar. The gripes I heard from MD students were the same as from the DO students I talked to. The interview I enjoyed the least was at UNM, not very applicant friendly towards me. They sent me a letter told me to show up and that was it. No greetings or help getting to or orienting around campus. I had my interviews and that was it. Just my experience there. If you want to do research don't go the D.O. route, that is not what they are known for, but if you would like to focus on being a clinician osteopathic medicine should be considered. Over all the hardest part was the waiting game, but once at the interviews all went well. Remember you are there to interview them and their school as much as they are there to interview you.
