Brief Profile:
Grew up internationally Had a very bad sophomore year (2003-2004, 2.6 GPA, 4 Cs in science prereqs) due to stress relating to 2 terrorist attack attempts on my hometown, but taken >60 credits since then with 2 year GPA of 3.8
MCAT 37Q, (14V 10P 13B) 8/2004 Significant volunteer service abroad, shadowing/clinical research in two urban hospitals for over two years, etc. Working as a research technician at top research medical school since 2006 Good LORs, but dated since they are from undergrad
Nontrad reapp. Fellow SDNers seem to think that extraordinary circumstances for poor performance and good subsequent science work don't matter - I'm inclined to agree after 2 interviews and 1 waitlist during 2008 application cycle. My biggest weaknesses were my low GPA and the age of my MCAT and LOR. I plan on rebuilding my application from the ground up by improving science and overall GPA with postbac classes taken a la carte from local state university for 2008-2009 school year, followed by an SMP and reapplication during 2009-2010. I am still on a waitlist for 2008, so I am hoping that this profile will be unnecessary.
School list below is preliminary and includes a mix of schools I applied to and did not apply to in 2008.
