My atypical MCAT timing fortunately did not have any negative results. Although I did not apply widely, I received interview invites from everywhere I applied, and was accepted or waitlisted everywhere I interviewed.
The worst moment in my application process was when I received a rejection letter from Case in October, before my 2nd MCAT results came in. I had emailed all the schools to let them know that I was retaking the test, but my email fell through the cracks at Case and I got the immediate 'NO' based on my sub-par 1st MCAT. Fortunately, it took just one phone call for them to pull my application out of the trashcan and re-evaluate it upon arrival of the new MCAT score... and months later, I'm in!
