Volunteering: - Since I was a senior in high school, whenever I am back home, I\'ll volunteer with special needs students at a local high school. I did this very frequently when I was senior in high school (2004-2005) and fairly often my freshman and sophomore years (2005-2007). Time constrictions this year have really limited my availability, but I\'ve still made time to go up and see the students every now and then! - My church has an annual fundraiser that I have volunteered at the past two years. Not sure how important that really is, but I threw it on here anyways.
Shadowing: - I shadowed physicians at UNMC in the fields of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Endocrinology for up to 40 hours per week, gaining insight into the medical profession through clinical experience. - I shadowed physicians at the Children\'s Hospital here in the fields of Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and Neonatology for up to 40 hours per week observing patients and gaining medical experience through clinical shadowing. - Well over 200 hours of shadowing. I shadowed summers of 2006 and 2007, often for 40 hours a week for at least 6 weeks each summer. That\'s roughly 200 hours each summer, but got some awesome hands on experiences.
I just wanted to add that, for me, the teaching has been the most rewarding experience of my entire undergrad. I decided to pursue that rather than research, lots of volunteering, or other activities. And while some may not agree with that approach, it stems mainly from my philosophy on life to follow what I enjoy and find meaningful, not what other tell me I should do. A lot of that is the result of my dad, who was a doctor and died abruptly of prostate cancer in 2005...won\'t go into details, I\'m saving that for my personal statement. I just wanted to explain my resume in case you wondered why I don\'t have more volunteering hours or why I waited to start doing research until this year.

Summary of Application Experience
I take the MCAT May 23rd, and at the moment I am planning applying EDP to UNMC. I feel I am a strong enough candidate that even if I somehow only score a 28 or 29 on the MCAT that I'd still have a good chance. As time gets closer to apply I may change my mind, but these are my plans for now.
Update: Took the MCAT and scored a 29. I was happy with my score...VR was low (8), but I think my S on the essays will counter that a bit. Very happy with BS and PS scores. My application was processed today and I'm awaiting a secondary from UNMC!!
