  • Brief Profile: I am a biochemistry and economics double major with a math minor. I want to get into an MD/PhD(Health Economics) program, which makes me a very unique applicant, but I am still scared to death because this process is total crapshoot, and I am not a very strong candidate, at least not till I sit down and ace the MCAT, after which, I might have a shot in h-e-double l.

In conclusion, sucks being an Asian and applying for med school!

    Anyways, for my extracurriculars:
    Resident Assistant; Assistant Hall Director
    Mentor got minority students group
    Writing Consultant
    Eco/Bio tutor
    Patient Companion (120 hrs.)
    School literary magazine editor- Non-fiction
Shadowed a general physician for 6 weeks
I did research in biochemistry for my senior year, and during the summer before sophomore year, though it is not my passion. I just didn't do econ. work because no one at my school is interested in health economics.

    Summary of Application Experience

3/25- It is 12:58 AM in the morning, and I am slightly encouraged by the process. My biggest concerns are my GPA, and lack of undergraduate work in Economics, and the fact that I still haven't taken the MCAT. I have a fairly decent explanation of the GPA, and the lack of undergrad work in Econ. can apparently be compensated by strong undergrad coursework in economics and math (which I have--yeah! I have a 3.93 econ. and math GPA; plus, I will be taking a graduate level econ. class at my school). As for MCAT, we'll see. I thought I would kick ass on the SAT, and by the time I got done with it, I only had a 1390 and it was Oct., and I was ridden with senior idis. This time, I hope it will be different. I have already started working on my personal statement (which I think will be amazing; at least I hope), and I am hoping to be done with LORs by the end of the semester. I am hoping to keep updating because I want to help others in the process as much as I can. It is a painful journey, with no end in sight. By the way, I am a junior in Spring semester at this point.

3/26- Working with a tutor for MCAT. We did one passage together, and got all of them correct, so I will continue going till I figure out how to deconstruct a passage.
