I don't understand why everyone's posted such negative comments, because everyone has their own way of reaching their goals. I read your blogs, and anyone can see how hard you worked to get into medical school. your overall GPA is very good, and you have some incredible EC's. If anything, you are hope to the people who don't think they do good enough in classes/MCAT to get into med school. Thank you for sharing your experience in such detail :) and i think your PS was frickin AMAZING, and really showed your dedication to medicine :) replying back to an earlier comment, I didn't think it was a sob story at all, it was an experience that is definately worth sharing

wow..a lot of bitter people on here. You look like you've gone through a lot and have a most awesome GPA. MCATs are certainly NOT predictors of how you will do in med school, so don't listen to all these whiners who..at the end of the day... are just jealous b/c you got in and they didn't! Cheers :)

I'm hearing alot of bitterness out their. I went to that same 'grade inflating' undergraduate school, and clearly it molded me and this applicant into people of higher character than whoever wrote those last couple of lines. You sir, are going to have a really tough life if your only source of joy comes from trying to make others feel horrible about themselves. The fact that you and your poisonous mouth are allowed to spit out this kind of foulness makes us all a little worse off, or rather, alot worse off. Peace Out.

I had written an entirely different PS, and after Katrina, I rewrote the enitre thing. My life changed a lot after that day. As for grades, I worked hard for them. It had been four years between many of my basic science classes and my MCAT, and I don't believe that I studied as hard as I should have. I don't think my grades are inflated, but I do think that my MCAT was deserved because I didn't study like I should have.

your personal statement is such a cliched sob story. give me a break. what would you have written about had there not been a hurricane? consider yourself very lucky you went to a grade inflating undergrad because that MCAT score is the equivalent of a 'C' average.

I'm glad you got into med school. Many professors told me I would never become a doctor and I did. Best of luck.

I don't agree..
User #4837, 4/21/2006 at 4:39am EST
I do beleive there are 'deserving people,' but I don't think that the people who are on waitlists are 'unlucky.' I also don't believe that those who are accepted are 'lucky.' I worked for an acceptance. If I had not been accepted, I would have considered it - a personal failure - not luck. I would have worked harder to improve myself in order to gain acceptance. I would not have given up just because I thought I was 'unlucky.'

Although you may not think you are 'lucky to get into medical school' I think it's probably time for a reminder: ANYONE accepted to a US Medical school is lucky, yourself included. There are PLENTY of deserving people left on waitlists when school starts in the fall.

Why do people leave poor/negative comments. I would never do this to anyone else, especially anonymously. Do you ever think of how you would feel if someone did this to you? It makes me feel horrible for a long time after reading it. I liked my personal statement or else I wouldn't have submitted it.

I was never asked about my individual scores, nor was I asked to explain my MCAT compared to my GPA. Read my blog if you are intersted - doctorquack.blogspot.com

I don't think that I am lucky to get admitted. I worked hard for my acceptance. Obviously, the admissions committee believes that I have the ability to handle medical school.

You are lucky to be accepted to a medical school. Looking into your classes and grade, I think you are one kind of memorizing person in stead of thinking person. You will be dead meat if you for engineering degree and yes you did chose the right career for yourself. It surprise me though that with your ability, I don't think you could survive the medical school. Really. You will be struggle and you will be crying. I am sure. Don't take this personal, this is just a warning sign. But, I do like your PS to medical school. I wish you well. Peace out.

in your interview did they ask about your lower score in PS, or have you explain your high GPA compared to your MCAT? just wondering cause I am in the same boat.
