Summary of Experience:
LOR req: 7/12/11, On hold: 11/2/2011
Mayo has a really small class which I feel a little too small for my taste. However, this also translate to a lot of individualized attention. All students get great financial aid. They can easily get funded to do research, to go to national meetings, to do clinical rotation elsewhere. They also have this thing called selective, which is 2 week in between blocks that you can do anything you want including vacation.
Rochester is really small and cold. Not sure I would be happy living there for 4 years. Flying to Rochester is also ridiculously expensive!
I feel that despite their great program and awesome hospital, Mayo medical school is not very recognized.
I felt my 2 30-minute interviews went really well, so I am bit crushed when I was put on hold.
Oh well! I am not hoping for more at this point and would rather go somewhere else anyway. Regret the fact that I spent so much to interview here
Summary of Experience:
The interview day was a positive experience, except for the MMI session which I found to be superficial and weird. I got to talk in a small group with Dean Henderson which I thought was cool.
The students-run free clinics are really comprehensive. The best I have seen among all other schools.
Summary of Experience:
Duke seems to have a good program for those interested in research. I personally can not appreciate the fact that I have to pay tuition to do research for 1 full year during medical school. Although it may be beneficial if I want to pursue another degree (MPH), I can get them done within 4 years.
Durham is small, not much going on. The medical campus and general campus are really nice though.
I interviewed on a Monday. It was hard to get student host since they have test every Monday. Too bad that they let you know this once you schedule for your interview. So if you want to save money by getting a student host, I recommend you to take the Friday interview. This fact also make me realize that most M1/M2s won\'t have most of their weekends since they have to study.
Their MMI was not the worst I have seen but I felt like I did not do well, not only MMI is harder in general but also I could not get excited about the school. However, I really enjoy both the dean admission intro talk and Mr. Wallace closing notes. I think they really look for admirable qualities in applicants and definitely look beyond stats, one thing I always appreciate from a school since I know if I get accepted, I will go to school with amazing classmates!
Summary of Experience:
NYU really sells Bellevue as a great teaching hospital with great missions.
The campus was okay, it is a little bit old and it is really scatterred within the medical center. The fact that it is away from the main campus is a bit of a turn off. The location in NYC is really great, except the fact that it is a little bit far from subway station. But it is in the middle of everything! Only a short walk from Empire State Building, etc. The dorm is meh, but definitely cheaper than most establishments in the area. I got a frat, too cool for school, and not very excited about their school vibe from the students. I read the interview feedback on SDN saying that the students to be partying a lot, tend to be younger and homogenious. I found that those to be true during my interview and stay with a host.
The curriculum is great with the new 21st curriculum.
Interview is only one 30 minute interview, I find this very lacking to get your message accross especially because you don\'t have a chance to redeem yourself in another interview.
Summary of Experience:
Beautiful campus, great programs, great financial aid (less expensive than UCSF since they have better grants and endowments!). Positive experience during interview. The only place I interviewed where I was like: Oh My God, this school is amazing and can\'t stop talking about it for a few days.
MMI is definitely difficult but much better my UC Davis experience.
The facility, Li Ka Shing Center, is top notch. Only open for about 1.5 year I think.
Accepted via phone call by dean Garcia!! I cannot believe it. I am pretty sure I will be going here next year!
Summary of Experience:
I decided to apply to this school as a safety school since it is located in Miami, they have cheap secondary fee, and from what I have seen in their website, they have a really good program and support from their student.
Little that I know when I got there, OOS tuition is crazy high. like 75k per year or something. I have not seen any school charge higher than this.
Interview was 2 interviewer in one room for 30 minutes. I felt that I did really well. The medical school building is nice and brand new. I can definitely feel however FIU is a commuter school. I also don\'t like the fact they don\'t have university hospital which means most of clinical training will be done in surrounding community hospitals (lots of commuting).
It was my first time visiting Miami and South Beach, let me say that I am very disappointed and could not see myself living there.
